i have a 97 Z24 and i'm getting the head p&p, when i removed the cylinder head, cylinder number 3 had oil on top of the piston so i cleaned it off and all of the pistons have corrosion on them, is there away to clean this and also is there a tool i can use to clean block surface where the head gasket goes?

carb spray is your friend. lots of carb spray!

also, a block with light sandpaper on it as well, just make DAMN sure you get all the gasket cleaned off first, and at the end just to get all the shavings and chunks of crap all off.

i used WD40 and light sandpaper, then dryed it off real good. The top of the pistons looked real nice. I wish i had took pics when i did a valve job on my head, also the machine shop i took it too didnt port n polish.

Purple power degreaser works AWESOME! that combined with steel wool will clean it up nicely! (make sure to CLEAN THE WHOLE ENGINE if using steel wool)
