Vibrant Catback Exhaust System
Monday, May 28, 2007 5:14 PM
I'm Redoing my exhaust i have:

Pacesetter Polished Armor Coat Header

MagnaFlow Catalytic Converter by Car Sound 2 1/4" In/Out

I need to buy the rest of the exhaust from the cat back.

I'm thinking I might get the Vibrant Catback Exhaust System from Aaron at TTR.

So what are your thoughts on this cat back and should I add a resonator.

Also If i go custom any ideas on what muffler or resonator i should purchase would help a lot (also a go site to buy from would help too )

thanks

Does it come with a resonator?

I'm about SOL in finding true 2.25 ID SS pipes n such.

Does this set up come with a resonator?

I dont think you need a resonator. I dont have a header on mine but i think with a header you prolly need one. The id of the pipe is almost 2.5". Maybe Aaron can get a good measurement for us

The ID of the Vibrant is 2.375" about, the OD is 2.5" and most cat backs are refered to the OD diameter. The vibrant is the largest off the shelf manufactured cat back that we know of, from a major company.

Why do you need a resonator? they add restriction, and unless your muffler doesn't meet local dB regs or you are going hard-core sleeper, I fail to see the benefit.

The resonator is used to get rid of the "raspiness"

The vibrant cat back used alone sounds awesome... very deep.

When used with a higher flowing header and downpipe it could induce raspiness which can be cured by a turbo or resonator

Resonators like the ones from Vibrant or Magnaflow are straight through type resonators and don't add any restriction at all. Some people like having a loud exhaust and others like having a quieter exhaust. A resonator (or 2) is a good way to quiet the exhaust to your desired note without adding any restrction.

Also some states, like NY where I live, don't have dB regs to go by. The law just states that you can't modify the exhaust to make it louder than the stock exhaust was, so keeping an aftermarket exhaust as quiet as possible won't draw as much attention.

how would this setup work mated with the 086 head and HO exhaust mani? would it still sound raspy or what should i get with the head swap?

ok, what will have a deeper sound. Dual magnaflow mufflers with resonator, or dual Vibrant mufflers with vibrant resonator?

dual will not really do anything it is just for looks.

if you want a clean sounding exhaust go with a resonator.

i got mine from gravana. Jim turned me onto this catback probably close to 2 or so years ago. I was very pleased with it. I have obx 4-2-1 header, magnaflow 94035 high flow cat and the vibrant catback. I would recommend a resonator but the sound without one is pretty good when warmed up.
