Another manifold swap problem thread
Thursday, May 03, 2007 10:34 PM
I did my lo manifold swap the other day and since then Ive been having problems. I first used 2 2.3 gaskets on each side of the flange, put everything together and fired it up...Would start at 3k then drop to 2k, but then went back up. The gaskets werent lining up right, and I said screw it and just used some gasket maker on each side of the flange. I got it all together and drove it, but my brakes were very hard and the idle was high, which was just a kink in my brake booster line.

With the gasket maker it started up and drove, but then got the check engine and trac off light. The problem Im having now is that when I let off the throttle, once it drops to 1k rpms it will bounce to about 1500 a few times except sometimes if Im braking kinda hard. I checked for vaccum leaks by spraying carb cleaner all over and found nothing. Then i was thinking the iac, so I tried another iac I had and it was fine but then came back. One thing though, before I even did the swap I would have this problem every once in a while with both iac sensors. I also tried disconnecting my battery for a while, but it still came back.

Anyone else had this specific problem? Its not keeping me from driving the car, hell I even ran the car at the track, but its just annoying.

When I did my Ho swap I used 2 of the 2.3 gaskets and modified one to fit the 2.4 head, but I put the flange on first then used RTV silicone to hold the modified gasket to the flange then used the RTV to hold the other 2.3 gasket onto the manifold then installed.I did have some of the similiar problems as you stated but cleaned the IAC and throttle body again and now after a week my ets trac off light finally turned off and even though I have the engine light on from the EGR car runs and sounds great.

Im thinking its the iat, cause like I said I couldnt find any leaks and i had this problem before I did the swap. I am happy with the swap though since theres no major problems. I noticed my exhaust is a little deeper,it looks great, and I dropped .2 off my 1/4 times with just the lo manifold alone.

could be and I'm thinking maybe I was supposed to do what you did and put the modified 2.3 gasket on first then the flange,oh well

Ive got 2 2.3 gaskets that are modified, and 2 2.3 tb gaskets not used that are just sitting around. If you want them let me know Im not using them.

Does anyone have any 2.4 tb sensors they dont need that are in good condition? I realy dont want new ones sine they are over $100 for a new iac and tps, so just any that are in good condition?

Not sure if I mentioned it but the rpms dont bounce up until they drop to 1000rpm, then to about 1500 a few times unless Im braking hard. Does this sound like a vac leak or bad sensor? I realy couldnt find any leaks so idk. PLEASE HELP!!!

It is most deff a vac leak. if your using the 2.3l t/b use the 2.3 sensors if your using the 2.4l t/b use the 2.4l sensors.

First time i did the swap i did it like 6 times to get rid of the vac leaks also make sure your ground from your battery is connected properly i have had that problem in the past make car run liks ass.

Good luck soldier.

Thanks man. Ill prolly try running the car with the intake off and cover the tb to double check for the leak. I tried spraying tb cleaner all over but couldnt find anything.

I was thinking its a sensor cause before I even did the swap, every once in a while I would get a trac off light and my rpms would do the same thing, but then it would go away soon.
