Ecotec Swap
Friday, May 04, 2007 1:21 PM
Hello, Im fairly new to this website and I decided to post up my question here.

I have a 2002 cav with ohv 2.2 and I was motivated onto making a complete ecotec swap. And so on I am turning to what I think the best chevy tuner website in the Internet.

What do you think would be the right price for a:
Ecotec Engine with 50k miles or less
Standard 5spd
Harness
Radiator and Fan

And one more question,
Will all the components from 2.2 like the AC compressor, stearing pump exc, be able to bold on to the ecotec?

These are just some questions that concern me because both engines are completely different O_O...

But anyways... I don't want to get ripped off, about how much should I pay for this more or less...

Every salvage yard is different. Shop around a few and find a price you can live with. As for checking parts, go to an auto parts store and ask them to look up the parts...see if the part numbers are the same. If they are, you are golden..if not, you have to find the ecotec ones...

i am pretty sure that the 2.2 parts wont fit the eco. i may be wrong but i dont think they do. like 89 sunbird said check parts store. as for price round my parts they usually go for $500 or less for the engine with accessories, i bought a 5 speed for my eco cavy when i shelled it and it cost me like $350 and it only had like 15k on it. seems that the eco is a bit harder to come by but they are out there. good luck with the swap, keep us all posted. i kinda wanna do the same with my 95 cavy once i unload my 04. oh and b.t.w. do a search for that info on here, youd be surprised how much is out there. peace

2200 parts won't work with eco. on the 2200 the power steering is pulley driven, on the eco its cam driven. it will be a lot easier to find a totaled car with the whole engine, rad, wires in good condition. but you can get all the pieces from junkyards.

I want to share something with you - the three sentences that will get you through life. Number one, 'cover for me', Number two, 'oh, good idea, boss', Number three, 'it was like that when I got here.'

I found an ecotec block for 500... but I need basicly the whole front end of a cav.

How about AC componnents? I think that AC components are same from eco, and 2200

Ok, now I was not lucky this morning but I will try to save up a bit more, do some more overtime at my job to get the best front end possible.

It might be a 3-4 month thing, since I can only save about 400 month

I just picked up a front half a car for $350, but you should expect to pay at least $600 or more to do this swap. Try to get the entire car because it will be well into $1k range if you buy the parts piece by piece ($600 engine, $500 trans, etc)

Ok, sounds good, this might take some time, but i will try to get a good front end in good condition.

The junk yeards here in my local area are very pricy people

This is the car the ecotec is ganna go into

from what I've been told about this swap..you need EVERYTHING from the eco car...from the gauges to the sensors, the computer...etc, etc etc and almost NOTHING is compatible.

'00 and '01 didn't come with an Ecotec. It's going to be easiest to look for an Eco in a 03 to 06 range. There was no optional engine in those years. They were all Ecos.

wrong.
2000 and newer Jbodies are absolutely compatible. The only components that aren't are a few simple things that are easy to replace.. such as accessories (a/c, power steering, etc) and hoses and what not. for 1999 and earlier, thats a different story tho, and you are needed to do a lot more to get the engine to function.

come on guys I wrote these to help you out.

original swap thread with pics Ecotec swap info with pics
updated and cleaned up version 3rd gen ecotec swap how-to

check both those threads (more so the second one) and it should answer all of your questions concerning the swap
