Does it fit or need alot of modification ?
no it fits only modifcation you need is to make a throttle body adapter since the cobalt is drive by wire....
well since you have an 03 you need to get injectors as well but for ppl like me with the 02 eco the injectors fit right into our fuel rail. other than those two things its a direct bolt up.
they have a supercharger for the 2.2 ecotec
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
quoting Airtonics who already tried this swap:
"I'm going to call BS on that one since I've already tried doing this swap. I already had the engine when I bought my S/C setup. Everything will swap, yes... however what did you use to control the engine? Certainly not the factory electronics. There is also more to this than just the oil pan and upper engine mount. You have to trim and fit your IDI cover to fit into the trim for the coblat because it
uses 4 individual coilpacks. Another item is the oil cooler would have to be blocked off, there is not enough room in our engine bay (
without add'l modification) to utilize it.
If you search for this you will find my attempt in the photos section on the org from sometime last summer. The crank on the 2.2 motor has 7 marks for timing pickup, the 2.0 motor has approx 100. This would not run on the stock computer/electronics. Of course people were saying I've seen it done, or I know someone who did it so this will be great!!! Blah blah, when I proved otherwise no one could be found.
That last profile that someone linked us to, I beleive... right in his profile he lists: SDS EFI complete Standalone management system
Which would be one way around the timing issue. So if someone isn't using a standalone or swapped every electronic option (including the drive-by-wire throttle body) from a cobalt/ion then they are just full of BS."

Well i call bs on that then. you dont have to swap over the throttle to drive by wire. you just need to make an adapter between the tb and the charger. I will be doing this project in approx. 3.5 weeks. Ill be sure to keep you posted on how Much fun I had doing this swap
and as for control I dont know if you know but its only a little program out called hp tuners and faking a 2 bar .... oh wait I have that as well
but then again by all means if you have the money to buy the kit go right ahead some of us college students don't like to dish out over 2600 dollars for not even a 100 hp over stock gain.
and how recent is that quote from airtonics? because you said tried...he DID the swap
dude use the dam BOOST FORUM , its what its for
yes the s/c will fit , cost wise its just as easy to get the GM kit and know stuff is new , and from a wrecked car that might have issues
So If I buy a used supercharger what exactly will I need with it?? I was so close to buying one off of ebay. MY car is pretty quick but has some guy in a red SS Cobalt rev up hard next to me in traffic ( the kid has 18 psi apparently). I need more speed lol.
Thanks

yea if you have money buy the kit but if you get the parts disgustingly cheap like a few people I know then use them.
Don't you think for that price I should just get a TURBO? If I can find the SC for 500 on ebay like I have, get the necessary hardware (clamps, hoses, fittings etc) maybe I can make out with $1000 and get 50-60 HP untuned. I have a header, and bigger TB. Even maybe bore out the SC where it bolts on to the TB and make out way less than a decent TURBO?
