Hey everybody i just got a full exhaust put on:
pacesetter 4-1 header
high flow cat
18" resonator
2 super turbo knock off mufflers
and now my check engine light comes on and when hooked up to the computer it gives the header and catlytic converter code. I already had them cleared but they came on again...so i tried disconnecting my battery for 5 minutes and starting it up again..that worked for about 15 minutes then it came back on again. So basically i need any other ideas you guys have to get these things off!
thanks
I had the same problem on my cavalier. Its not your cat its the pace setter header, because of the placement on the 02 sensor, the only way I know of from on here to fix it is with a piece in front of the 02 sensor itself on the header. forgot what it was called since ive been kinda idle on the org since switching to the cobalt but 99% sure thats what others are going to say as well. From getting the bad 02 reading in the header my car ran more rich and ended up clogging the cat.
does anybody know what this piece is called? it would help out tremendously
You shouldn't have a CEL from a header, after I put everything on I had absolutely no O2 sensor issues, but I handled my O2 sensor with EXTREME care. I didn't want that god damned CEL everyone else seems to get.
First check the wires, if the o2 sensor has been extended incorrectly, or too long... it will throw codes. Next, the most likely issue is the exhaust shop didn't care about your o2 and it got dirty or someone touched it, frying the o2. But, in theory... you should be able to replace it, and if you extended the wires the minimum amount it will work without any problems.
Good luck!
There will always be someone faster than you, but thousands slower and dumber than you.
Ok I kinda have the same problem but I KNOW for a fact its the 02 censor after the cat.. I don't think its bad i just think the cat flows too much
any suggestions? or would replacing it make the 02 censor shut off?
you need a simulator.

I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
Measure the stock location of where the o2 senser goes one the cat and put it at the same spot on the new cat. That is what I did and I do not have a cel light. Just a thought..
the little piece that people have used to get rid of the CEL is an anti-fouler, or non-fouler. It spaces the sensor out, just like a spark-plug anti-fouler. search the forums, you'll find instructions, I myself have not used one.
you need a heated o2 sensor

u need the casper electronics o2 simulator........
that still doesnt get rid of the problem
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
I will get back to you of how i dealt with this situation once i ask my buddy what the part was
Just basically put a spacer on the 02 sensor never had an issue again
To the OP what codes did you get? There is no sucj "header code". YOu might of got a slow response code from the primary O2 sensor. This could be because of a bad sensor, or you might need to go to a heater primary O2 sensor. Do a search there is plenty of info on that. If you are getting a code for the rear O2 sensor it could be because of the high flow cat. Using a spacer (or Anti-Fouler as a spacer) should sovle this problem. Also do a search and there is plenty of info on this as well. I also have an extra that I'm no longer using. You do not want to use a spacer on the primary O2 sensor.
Also the problem is not because of the Pacersetter header (well it is, but for a good reason). When installing high flow exhaust systems for the reason of getting rid of the exhaust gases quickly this can mess with sensor readings. It comes down to the pre-set info in the ECU and when it wants to throw a code. J's seem to be a little picky.

Thanks for the info.. did my homework went to check to code.. turns out it was yet again a tiny evap leak.. so when i was installing everything i must have bumped the tube or something.. damn thing has given me more trouble than anything else on the car..
any way thanks again
