My dad is bringing home a 2.2 ecotec from a cobalt i have a 04 cav i have a few questions the first is will the engine be a direct fit the cobalt has an eletronci power steering pump and an eletronic tb will i be able to convert it to my cav set up. My second quesiton is i have an auto and i want to make as much power as i can on all motor i currently have an aem cai, a pace setter header, b&m shift plus, and an apc muffler what can i do to this motor to get as much power from the engine before i drop it in. any advice is greatly appriceated.

You won't be able to convert with your computer and current wiring setup. You'd have to change everything over if you want it to work properly. It would be more hassle than it's worth.

I believe you can swap in the engine though without doing any computer/wiring change overs.

My question to you is, how come you need a new engine? What kind of "power" are you trying to make?

Basically, what is the point to doing all of this?

Tryin to make as much power as possible on all engine and that way i still have my stock engine incase the other one blows. Never hurts to have a spare engine.

i was thinking the samething. you can keep your current engine, build that up whatever way you want.
just keep the one out of the cobalt as a spare

Well, if he is going to get the heads worked, pistons changed, cams, and everything balanced up at a machine shop, then having the spare engine to do it all to would be a great way to reduce the swap time. Plus, you would have the spare engine to hang on to until a few months down the road when you were sure your engine was put together right. After that, I would sell it. if you are just putting it in in the car as is, I really wouldn't see a reason.

I am building the engine for the vette instead of modifying my current one. I figure on having a less milage, built motor that I can just swap out in a weekend verses sending my current engine off to a machine shop for a month, or doing an engine swap with a vendor which would still take a month. I can then sell my current engine or look for another car to put it in...

ecotecs up to 05 and some 06 should work with your computer however late 06 and newer have a different crank and will not work with your computer

You will need to swap oil pans off the old one.

the block and the head are the same

just use your parts where the cobalt eco differs, its not rocket science

ps pump I don't believe will work because its speed variable (requires the ecu to have the programming to control it) there's no way to fake it
