Realistic Goals??
Sunday, April 08, 2007 11:19 AM
I have a 99 cavi 4 door auto with the 2200 with 45 000 org KMs on it. I have had the car for a month now. I needed another vehicle since my last daily driver has since been turned in to a compition off roader, and the car is in mint condition only thing it needed to pass safety was front pads and rotors. Now to the question, i want it to be a little quciker i'm shooting for a low 14 second 1/4 mile. Is this realistic with out digging into the bottom end?? I already have a CAI, and Catback, and I plan on putting up to another $4000 on the motor and trans. I'm thinking i will need aleast a 75 direct port shot of N2o, upgraded torque converter, upper intake manifold and TB, Cylinder head, rocker arms, pushrods, cam, Fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator, MSD DIS, plugs, wires, MSD Ignition Coils, header, hi flow cat, motor mounts.. Will this do it for me?? I'm i missing anything? I'm very inclined when it comes to automobiles and have done a number of engine builds before, i'm not afriad to dig into the bottom end, i just don't think the boss(wife) will let me spend a lot of money on a caviliar.

that's about a $4000+ shopping list you have already, but you wont spring $300 for a set of eagle rods, or the roughly $200 for a cam? would be worth it if you're doing the work yourself...

I have rods and a cam in my list. I have been reading as much info as possible since i got the car. I'm more used to bigger displacement engines but the same principles apply. This is my first engine build under a 351, so i am interested in the out come. It seems that most on here have a nagative veiw when it comes to the OHV and i guess with good reason in stock form. I have found j body.org to be a great place for info.

I guess i will need some kind of tuning software as well? or an engine management system. The car will also be gutted when its at the track. So what do you guys think? sound like a 14 scond car?? anything faster will just be a bonus. The exterior of the car will remain stock down to the 14" rims

You should be able to pull some nice times with a setup like that with a stripped car.

As far as tuning software, HP Tuners is the most popular and easiest way to go, it may not be the BEST per say, but it helps a LOT.

Keep us updated!

OHV FTW!

pretty much any tricks you can do to a small block chevy, you can do to the ln2. you'll be amazed to just how similar they really areonce you start tearing into it.
