the other day i was driving to work when i stopped at the gas station and seen a 92 z-24 or somthing like that and it was tubed and had a 454 bored over to a 468 with a weiand supercharger, that @!#$ thing was badass it was from columbus, ohio and the guy that was driving it was about 65. i told him to get on it when he left and the @!#$in car carried the front wheels for like 30 feet, i have never been so shocked in my life. so im thinkin about doing a small block swap in a 3rd gen. in the next year or two so for right now im looking to buy a shell so if anybody finds one or has one let me know!!!1
hondas are like tampons.....every pu$$y needs one...
mildly built 99' ln2, eagle h-beam rods, wiseco forged alum. pistons, cusco oil catch, t3/t4 super 60 garret, tial 40 mm wastegate, hp tuners, prothane mount inserts, 2.5" exhaust.
haha thought the same thing.."here we go again"
why put a good engine in such a waist of a car
Future Personal note - don't refer to a J-body as a Waste of a Car. We love our J-bodies.
You may get FLAMED, for making statement like that on this Board.
A better comment - would be why would you want to Waste a good J-body, by converting it to RWD, And dropping a Big Friggin' V 8 into. What are attempting to build a funny car, or a Bad A$$ daily driver.
If it's the daily driver you want - check out the board. their are Plenty of good people on this board that have J-bodies running with F-bodies, Stangs, Vettes & and even a few with Vipers - on souped/juiced DOHC I4s, or modifed V6s
Because J-bodies are naturally lighter than all these cars, they require less HP to run with them.
A 2800-2900 lbs J-body only needs about 200 whp to run with 1999-2004 V8 mustangs. Or about 220-230 whp to run with the 2005+ Mustang GTs, Or about 240 whp to run with '98-02 Ram Air Powered V8 F-bodies. And only about 270 whp to equal regular C5 Vettes. Or about 310 whp to equal C6 Vettes. Or for these really Extreme J-bodies - can go 2006 Z06 or Viper Hunting - if they put on a diet to shed about 200 lbs, and have their motors making about 350 whp

That's some nice thinking, but max horsepower means very little. It is area under the curve between shifts that you want...unless you are going for top speed on the salt flats. Let's also not forget the ease of launching a RWD car over a FWD car. Very few J-bods have held their own against 911's,c5 zo6's, srt-10's, etc, wheras civics, silvias, gsx's, etc, continue to walk all over them every single day.

"Youth in Asia"...I don't see anything wrong with that.
OMG LYK NO WAY1!!!!!!!!

My point is this
Yes, modifed j-bodies are perfectly capable of holding their own against more powerful cars.
But if you want a true GM V8 powered, RWD car - then get an F-body.
Don't attempt to build a funny car out of your J-body (it will cost lots of money, likely cheaper to buy a good used F-body).
But if it's a bad to bone daily driver that you want that can beat most Sport compacts, and maybe surprise a few mustangs & F-bodies to boot - then - stick with the j-body.
If you have the skills and you want something very few have why not stuff a v6 or v8 into a J body? Geez we use to stuff v8,s into Chevy Vega,s Monza,s Ford Pinto,s a Plymouth Arrow with a balls out 340! I even saw a Ford Fiesta with the engine from a SHO shoe horned into it.I know the first few cars I mentioned are RWD. But trust me they still took a lot of work to get right. I really respect the guys that are going down the path less travelled. Would a V8 powered Cavalier or Sunfire make a good daily driver? Hell no but I,d line up to go for a ride in one in a heart beat
Thats Him Officer The WICKED One.
what my point was is that would be one thing nobody has even thought of because alot of people dont like to conquer odds but i mean everybody has their own opinion i would like to try it sometime doesnt mean i can pull it off but atleast i put my heart and soul into my car and i would like to see my car become a v-8 and NO ITS NOT HERE WE GO AGAIN i might seem like a newb saying @!#$ like that but i would like to do somthing that makes me stand out from the crowd, like real far out you know!!!!

seriously dude.its been done. its not original. and honestly, i DON'T consider it to be an actual cavalier anymore if it doesn't have a factory cavalier engine choice in it. after you swap to a v8, its just a shell with a big engine. at that point, you're better off just pulling the skins off, building a tube frame, stuffing a blown big block between the rails, and reskinning it, because the unibody wont hold up to the torque for very long. that wouldn't impress me at all, sorry. want to impress me? hit 8's with a turbo 2.2 eco, in a street legal cav. or single digits with an ohv. THEN i'll be impressed. a RWD tube car with a cavalier skin is NOT a cavalier.
NOW, with that said, if you want to do it, ruin a cav, and most likely give up on a half finished project, go right ahead. just look at what
Alex R. has done. from the pics i've seen, this is the bare minimum to rwd and v8 a cav, and honestly, i DO congratulate him on the work he's done so far, BUT, i don't consider it to be a cavalier anymore.

I agree... Id LOVE to do it, however then to me its not a cavalier anymore, or sunfire... I have a hard time swallowing a 3800 in a j-body, but its (in my opinion) closer to a j than a RWD conversion... Though I DO miss RWD.
If I had one it would be a funnycar/trackqueen.

i dont consider mine a ture cavalier either its not a production motor or a unibody anymore but its not a skin either it is a production car with a sheetmetal body and sum of the framing left but theres no other real way to through a v8 in a 3rd gen u cant fit it in for fwd but i love my cavalier and its sum kind of hobby to keep me occupied

and as i said, i commend you for what you've done, it will be a badass car when its done, but as we both agree, its not really a cav anymore.

no its not youre right and i agree but its not that im building a tubed frame and putting fiberglass body parts on it was a real cavalier at one point not now but still kind of his and i thank u for the commending

Chris, I am with you. It's been a long time since I've seen someone with the nads and what's needed to build a RWD conversion Pro-Stock style street machine ( Which in old school is known as "Pro-Street" ). They were primarily fairgrounds cruisers built just to show one's fab skills, and few of those that were built ever saw real street duty for emmissions/model year law reasons. Hell, some builders emmulated the style alone in the chassis and dressing with fully driveable near-stock engines ( These were called " Pro-Foolers " ) Now, if someone had the gumption to build a Tuner-Pro-Street of out of a FWD car, in full-dress that also turned 8s while being fully streetable, I'd be first in line to shake their hand pay for their dinner if I could. As for someone's comment about the production cav being a real car... Hah! A REAL car!? C'mon... No american auto corp has built an econo-car that was a real car ( re: RWD ) since GM dropped the Chevette/Pontiac 1000. At least that car had real race win history overseas in rally. Damn strong too. It took an Audi Quatro to unseat it! A real car...
Go beyond the "bolt-on".
This is what eats me up ! It's ashame that some one gets flamed for making a comment about a sweet hot rod and/or is thinking of building one. How do you think the hot rod world got started. Personally, if he wants to build it he should be encourage and us true hot rodders and gear heads should be responsible to give any help and advise possible. If all we're going to do is trash some one about a project they want to do, the chances of them not doing it are highly increased, and then we can sit back and watch the real hot rods disappear along with all that knowledge.
Here's a thought. Why don't you go find some old timer, find out what implants and rods they've built, tell them your not impressed and that they've wasted their time, and see what kind of response it gets you.
Our current projects are my naturally aspirated sbf 302 in a RX7 that on it's maiden voyage at the track ran a 7.83 1/8 mile with traction issues and short shifting, and my friends 65 mustang w/302 with only 125 shot that so far we've run 6.94 1/8 mile running out of gear way before the line both street legal.
My advise to Kyle is if you want to build it, go for it , have fun and don't listen to those that don't think it's worth the time. Someday they might figure out what they've been missing.(but I doubt it) and let us know if we can help.

No offense bro, but you are talking about transplanting a RWD setup in a RWD setup. Both of those project cars have RWD front and rear ends and are tunneled to support a drive shaft. A cavalier is a
HUGE project in comparison. A 3rd gen is an even larger project still, considering how much smaller the engine bay is. It can be done...it has been done...but it can't be done by everyone. These V8 RWD questions get asked a great deal here. Guess the percentage who actually have the balls and cash to see the project through.
However, Best of luck to you, Kyle Allen, if you do eventually go through with this project...I hope you have a constant unneeded flow of funds.

You are absolutely correct Brian, but I hand fabricated everything to do it myself, so it was quite a project.(but oh the fun).
What gets me is someone getting flamed for expressing their thoughts and ideas.
Kyle: you might try and do a internet search and see what you can find out about the swap.
Have fun and keep us posted.
