okay so new to this engine swapping stuff but someone told me that the new 2.4 ecotec was much better than the original 2.4 engine that came with my 96 z24. my question is is it true and if it is where can i get this engine and how much work will it take to change it. is it worth it? k thanks

Way to much work and money to run a 2.4 ecotec in a 2.4 LD9 car. It is better, but it also has A LOT more electronics that go with it.
The 2.4 ecotec will not directly bolt in, can not be run on the 96 ecu, and ect.
Get another 2.4 Ld9 motor or a 2.2 ecotec from another cavalier or sunfire.
Any ecotec is going to require more time and effort than you probably want to do. A 2.2 ecotec is doable, and is really not that hard, but you need to do your research before even start thinking about it.

well for starters, you could send me that unloved LD9! i'm looking for one for cheaper then $1000 and it's getting to be tiresome. In all honesty, you should just think about beefing up the LD9 that you have now, they are a strong engine and much worth the time it would take to build it up, then to swap in the ecotec.. Of course many people will argue and say that the ecotec is much better, but this is just my personal opinion that I think the LD9 is the better choice. especially since you have never swapped an engine before, you should start slow, trust me i just got into the whole LD9 swap recently too, and there is a shat load of research you should do first before anything. that's just something to think about though.

Ok seeing someone else started this i am going to tag on it. I am wanting to swap a LD9 into my 95 2.2 I have to donor car in my garage right not i plan on taking everything out of a 97 z24 that is i way banged up. Big question I have it the engine cradle the same. The one some the Z24 is not usable will the one from my 2.2 work. This is a way major job cause I am going form an auto to a manual but i have everything in the donor car to use
