2.4 Spark Plugs
Saturday, March 03, 2007 10:26 AM
Hello all

Here is a list of what i have done for performance

Pacesetter Arrmour Coated Header
2.25 Exhaust header back
Magnaflow High Flow Cat
Borla Pro XS Muffler
HO Intake Mani and TB
Short Ram Intake with K&N
HP Tuners to come soon
NGK Iridium Stock replacements

My question is i wanna change the plugs again but was wondering what NGK to go with this time or is there a better brand to go with

Ive read on here of some running a little hotter plug for N/A

Also should i order new springs for the plugs when i change them, as far as i know they are still the originals.

Thanks again

We have the same car with some simular mods so I though I would reply,

I put new springs in just because
1. The car is now 6 years old.
2. they were cheap.
3. I had everything apart.

I think it is mainly a personal choice you will have to make more than a HP mod.

I am using boost, however I used A/C Delco and Bosch Plat when N/A, then switched to NGK with the S/C. I like NGK but others here like A/C Delco, etc. I used NGK's tech line to get info for my set up to include gap recommendations.

ask for chris.

Good Luck

The NGK Iridium plugs are what you get now when you order GM plugs for the supercharger.... so... they're the same thing

I've tried a bunch of plugs... Accel U coppers, NGK coppers, NGK Iridiums, AC Delco stock platinum, AC Delco copper.... the stock ones were best for my application. Just get the right heat range for your mods, and run the right gap.

Where would i get the stockers again?

Dealership?

Do they come pre gapped? or do i need a gap tool?

I prefer NGK's, stock number 3951. They are NTR55's. They cost about $1.69 each. I have run them in all my N/A 2.4's. Great plug.

For gap I would check it anyway. Some do some don't.

Bosch said their's do.

NGK said their's do not come gapped, but the last ones I bought where right on.

I always measure anyway it is easy.

I like the NGK iridiums now, but while the car was N/A the A/C Delco and Bosch Plat 4 seemed to work fine.

If you are set on NGK;

P/N TR5IX (stock) is for N/A
P/N TR6IX (1 step colder) is for mid level boost up
P/N TR7IX (2 steps colder) is for N2O and high level boost

I would call Chris at NGK tech, he can give gaps too.

Anyone know the gap off hand for the TR51X

Yeah, I'll look it up in my book and post. At least I know the recommended NGK gap for your mods.

A month ago I would have just mailed you a new set of TR5IX that I had. Got rid of them since I don't use them anymore.

Wrong. Stock N/A 2.4 is 3951 (stock number on the box), they are TR55's.
AlsoBosch 4's are the worse plug you can put in a 2.4.
You would gap them at the factory specs.

I put them in my 97 Z24 and thought they were ok, but when I put in the NGK's I saw how rough the +4's were. Lots of other people have complained about them as well. For the price you pay they are not worth it.

FR3's are stock for the 2.3. If you go with the 086, I wouldn't run anything hotter than FR2's. FR1 are still available in some places but I'm running FR2's in the high compression W41.

FR2's are FR2's. If you check NGK, you can get the FR4's witch are hotter. You can get your FR2's dirt cheap at your dealership. My dealership don't use them anymore and the guy almost gave them to me. They still have a full box.
