Valve Clearance Issue?
Friday, March 02, 2007 9:09 AM
Hey i did some searching, but i came up with nothing in particular. I have a 98 Cavalier w\ 2200 motor in it, and i am doing head work, oversized valves, and rockers. I need to know if i have enough clearance to do so. The head is getting shaved .030, mostly for flatness. With CraneRockers, what is my final piston to valve clearance? I dont know how to do the rocker arm math, or even what stock valve clearance is. Just subtract .03 for head shortness...

Well, truth is, nobody really knows what the stock valve clearance is
I would get a new head before I shaved it .030" for flatness...that's rediculous.

Will this help {see pages 190-191 Valve open values TDC (VOTC)}. I took .025 from the head and block combined, but .030 from the head?! That is a bit much, but can be done. That head must be really warped bad. You can just do the proceedure in the link and find out or use the strip of clay method (requires removal of the head a couple of times).
