You don't have to buy the flange.... but you might if you have an automatic. I can not remember if it will fit passed the automatic without the spacer.

you will need it if you want the ports to match with out it the ho ports are way to big so you will see no gain with the spacer. or porting the head to the manifold

Just use 2 gaskets.
That's how I get around it.

Also, I replaced the one bolt that acted as a ground with a regulat bolt,

I have an auto, and i currently don't have the spacer on it. I will so i have a better flow between the 2, but it wasn't to big of a deal to make it work.

just do a good port on the manifold, and head if possible, thats what I did I would say a 95% port match :shrug

you dont have to use the flange, back in the day, people did it without the flange b/c there wasnt one. The flange just makes everything that much easier. If you dont use the flange, you have to make the HO manifold ports into a Bshape and add material to the bottom of the ports to make a step or transition.

There was a bolt on the tanny pan that was a grounding point for a bunch of stuff.
The black wire to the battery was one of them.

And the threads extended through the head of the bolt and it was sticking out.

Since that, the HO mani would not site flush to the head.

I just replaced it with a regular 8mm threar bolt.
No big deal.
