98 z24 love her to death...good clean body couple small spots of rust but almost none...ill figure something about that
but other then that...like im gettin a new (used) tranny put in as per as agreement with old owner...and i was definitly gonna start doing my performance...all mounts, intake and slowly move on with cams, lighter pulley, full exhaust
im just debating if its worth it or not considering the motor has 184,000 km ( roughly 114,000 miles)
like kinda high, maybe not for its year but still
like engine sounds beautiful starts up no matter how cold like a champ, strong engine it seems
just wounderin if perfromace will be worth it if she craps out soon, now u guys have the knowledge on these cars and the 2.4 any opinions?
maybe get a rebuild and at the same time bore her out and stuff....pretty penny im sure but if the gains are hella noticble would be worth it to me
end term goal id love to see a boost guage... not sure if ill see that though
thanks for any and all feed back
Yeah totaly worth it. I have a 97 Z24 with 130k miles she is not running at the moment but that is going to be cured here soon after an engine rebuild. If your worried about your engine going out on you do a rebuild with forged internals. Forged Pistons, Forged Rods, new bearings, cometic head gasket, felpro gasket set, pnp, secret cams, 2.3 oil pump conversion, 2.3 HO intake manifold and a bigger bore TB. You would be all set up for that special little boost guage we all so much desier. If you do all the work yourself your looking at spending about $1500 for the forged rebuilt engine. Then about another $2500 for a complete turbo kit, with all of that and a 2.5" exhuast, all the motor mounts lower it a bit front and rear tower struts bars, sway bars, and assuming you have a 5spd, if not get a yank 3k tq converter. You can hit 13's 12's in to time with the right tuning from HPT and a proper psi lv on the turbo.

The reason it would crap out would be you. Nothing else. The engine in itself is good but if you drive it like a retard it will let go. 96-98 2.4 will eat the #3 bearing if you don't take care of it.

And the proper way of keeping your bearings in good condition is change your oil every 3k or even every 2k. Use a good brand of oil no cheap stuff. If you have always used synthetic go with Royal Purple or Mobile 1. If you use real oil I find Castrol GTX to be a good oil. And like Gilles said don't be a retard when driving your car. If some idiot pulls up next to you in a civic and wants to race. Don't do it because street racing is stupid, tell him to meet you at a track on friday night then waste him. This is the best way to keep your car from going to the junk yard, and keep your engine running nice and strong
enjoy!

fantastic!
No worries im babying her, and thanks for the heads up on the oil changing
i'll rebuild her when the time comes, untill then
figure cold intake, my mounts engine mounts and perhaps that new manual tranny mount from turbo tech
that should be a good start to get my feet wet...anything else to keep me busy for the next month or two?
If you have a 5spd, b&m short shifter, motor mounts, tranny mounts, bushings, suspension, front and rear tower struts bars. That should keep you busy for a few months

at 114k miles it's barely broken in lol. At the current mileage in my sig I'm 40psi below specs and that's full synth since 25k...hows that for distance
, my yota had 315k before it was 40 below and that was from 106k that it got synth gotta love that inline 6...oh well.

bushings like strut bushings
when u say suspension springs and struts? or shock absorbers
Springs and struts all the way around no shock absorbers. And yes strut bushings.
