Header, Downpie, and Cat install
Monday, November 13, 2006 2:02 PM
I am planning on buying some headers/downpipes from the current GP going on. I was wondering how hard it would be to install the header/downpipe myself. I currently have stock and a custom cat-back exhaust. Any usefull infomation on how to install them would be great, thanks.

Unless you can weld, you will not be able to do it all yourself.

It's not that difficult, but if you can not weld, then you would want to have an exhaust shop finish the install. I would atleast install the header yourself though.

you could have it all connected yourself and just take it to a shop, or a friends, and have it welded though right? that shouldnt be a problem i dont think

Would I be able to install the headers (bolt on correct) to the engine myself? Then hook them up (bolt on again I belive) to the stock cat on the in side? Because My cat is welded on the output side where I got a catback installed. And then later down the road buy a cat and have it all welded?

And would I be able to drive the car like that until I got the new cat?

Sorry... Im completely new to this.

you can do the header, but if everything else is welded, you should probably have an exhaust shop do the rest. shouldnt cost much money anyway, maybe 50 bucks to have the new cat welded in, and maybe 75 for the exhaust...

The header is the only bolt on part. The rest is all welded. I got rapped out the a$$ and paid $150 bucks to menikey to weld my header and cat up to my cat back. I found out after they did the work they charged be the full price for a cat install, including the price of the cat. It was late, I HAD to use the car the next day so i didn't fuss. Since it sounds like this is new territory for you, like it was for me, keep in mind it will take you a while to do this. Getting the old header our and the new one up in there was tricky for me. But well worth it, good luck.
