98+ 2.2 External Coil Swap on 2.4L problems.....
Saturday, November 11, 2006 12:27 AM
Ok. So everything is hooked up right. I just wanna make sure I have the firing order correct?
Looking at the front of the 2.4, since I don't know which cyl is which lol...I'm gonna call the right most cylinder cyl1, and the left most cyl4

On the 2.2 coils, 4 goes to cyl1, 1 goes to cyl2, 3 goes to cyl3, and 2 goes to cyl4, correct? Or do I have somthing switched up?

The car starts. Idles rough, like its on 3 cylinders. I think a plug wire might be bad, or worse, a coil. Coil no. 3 has corrosion on it, I used a wire brush to clean it off. Could the corrosion be from that coil not firing? Even after I cleaned it up, it still runs rough.

The 2.4 and 2.2 ICM wires, you just solder the same color wires together and I should be good? Cause I did that....I just want to make sure.

I want to see what you guys think before I go out and buy parts. I can smell fuel when the car is BARELY running....

Thanks!

No idea what you're trying to say here. So here's some info that's right.

1) Cylinder 1 is the one closest to the "front" of the engine. The front is where the drive belt is. Cylinders are numbered 1,2,3,4 in order.

2) Firing order is 1,3,4,2. The plug wires from cylinders 1 and 4 should be on the same coil. Plug wires from cyls 2 and 3 should be on the other coil.

3) Right and left sides of the car are always determined by sitting in the the car. Right side is passenger side in most cases.

4) If your coils have numbers on them match them up to the right plug wires. If the car doesn't start, switch the coils on the module. That way the numbers will always match the cylinders. Remember to keep 1 and 4 together on one coil, and 2 and 3 on the other.
