Hey all,
New here and to ownership of a sunfire GT 2.4
Just dropped a 2.4 w/ 70,000 mi from a junk yard and is running great, The car was free and had a Crank rod brg siezed on #2 cyl. so have extra engine to play with at some point now. Wondering what you guys would recommend for me so I could see some performance upgrades? It has an Exhaust on it already w/ what I would say is min. 2.5". What else would you do to get some go without dropping the doe for charger?
Chip?
Intake?
Wet shot?
hood scoop for intake?
ignition?
Extra car so I can beat this thing or try whatever! Got engine for a steal! compared to what I have seen them going for.
Brand recommendations and where to get would be appreciated also and some stay away froms
the only "chip" is the HPtuner software. cost around $600 for the pro versoin. and you need a pc to operate it. a laptop would be best. but HPtuners software would be more usful for boosted motors.
intake they are all the same
nitrous is fun. but can cost you a motor if you are not careful
read the performance FAQ at the top of this forum to get more info and websites
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
What do you really want to do with the car, daily driver, autocross, drag race what? Depending on what you expect from the car would determine what mods to do, example if you plan to run a turbo eventually then no sense buying a regular header.
2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
Just want to make something that looks like a joke till the little boy sitting at the stop light is only seeing my tail. External looks are nice but if it doesn't have some gump then what's the point! If I look like a goof and then shut someone down, that's got to be the best!
Street drags/ stop light to stop light/ some tight housing community racing with guys on the street. Will drive back and forth to work about 20 miles one way when I'm not driving one of my cycles.
thanks
Some info which is useful you and everyone that reads this:
Use the SEARCH button before you post. Chances are if you are going to post about an article in the latest magazine, or any number of other things, someone has already posted about it.
If you are new, do yourself a favor and hang around a while - read posts, and most importantly SEARCH before you begin to post. Being a newbie is inevitable. Being a stupid newbie can be avoided, though.
Plan out what you want your car to do for you, and then what you can afford to do for you car. Don't ask questions such as "Whats next?"

The GME in no way condones activities such as street racing or operating a vehicle in any manner that can legally or rationally be considered 'reckless' in nature. Any post or thread discussing, promoting, or otherwise being of general relation to this topic is not allowed.
Go to a track to drag. Do it legally and safe. Also look at what type of cars your buddies are driving and figure out what you need to do to beat them.
Some quick ideas one a few of the thigns to look at:
All-Motor Upgrades
Air Intake
Replace your stock air box with a solid pipe and high-flow cone filter.
Cat-back Exhaust
Replace your stock cat-back exhaust with a higher flowing model.
High Flow Cat
Replace your stock catalytic converter with a higher flowing model.
Exhaust Header
Replace your factory exhaust manifold with a tubular steel header.
Bored-out Throttle Body
Increase the opening on your throttle body to increase air intake.
Ported Intake Manifold
Further increases air intake.
Camshafts and Cam Gears
Agressive camshafts and cam gears allow for more power through timing adjustment.
Underdrive Pulleys
Underdrive pulleys can be added at the same time to reduce weight, which means the engine will work less to drive the accessory belts.
Cylinder Head Porting
Greatly increase air flow through the cylinder head. You may need to compensate with more fuel, which means you'll need an aftermarket Air/Fuel Controller.
Air/Fuel Controller
Allows tune-ability of the air/fuel mixture to avoid detonation and major engine damage.
Ignition Timing Controller
Allows you to control the timing.
Forced Induction Options
Supercharger
Turbocharger
TwinCharger
Bolt on a turbo kit, supercharger, twincharge for a huge power increase. Many of the All-Motor upgrades can and should be used along with a turbo kit for maximum power output..
Nitrous
The fastest and easiest way to bolt on big power. It's also the fastest and easiest way to destroy your engine if you don't know what you're doing. Read up on nitrous systems before considering one.
Engine Swap
This project is extremely time consuming, complex and expensive due to the amount of parts needed to perform the task. The parts alone can range upwards of $5000. The basic parts needed are: Engine, transmission, ECU, intercooler (and piping), fuel pump, complete exhaust system, and possibly a few more things not mentioned. The three options above are definitely better choices for the less experienced.
