More 086 questions

Before I ask yes i have searched a LOT but need to clear up a few things(dont wanna be attacked i see alot of that on here). If i get the aftermarket 9.0-1 pistons (thats with stock head) my compression should be 10.8-1 with the 086 right? If i get these pistons will i be able to use the HO cams or will they still not clear? Is the stock HO exhaust manifold better then a modified pacesetter header? If i should decide to get the head cc'd and bolt on the gm m45 supercharger is it worth it, ive heard it doesnt move enough air for the 086? lastly if i didnt go boosted and had the 10.8-1 assuming my math is correct would i get away with running midgrade gas?

Thanks for any help...

ok..im gonna go easy on you even though the answer to most of those questions that you "searched" for were just answered in a thread on this same page..right below this ONE

yes you can use the midgrade gas but personally id go premium just to be on the safe side

as far as the supercharger i cant answer that cus ive never dealt with that charger on a 2.4 hybrid so hopefully someone can help you on that one but for the rest of your answers just read the other thread and im sure most of them will be answered have a nice day

For one it would be a PITA. The only one I know that did it was MonsterCookie (long time since I've seen him).

Also, the M45 charger doesn't flow enough really for the 2.3 head. Not worth the effort.

Thanks for goin easy on me, I did read the other post and i read it again after you said that and it didnt say if the 9-1s had enough dish for the HO cams, which i am curious about. Also one person said somthin about not using the header but i wanted some other peoples opions too, its a header it cant be that restrictive...i guess if the primaries are too small but i didntt think they were that small.

Thanks for the advice about the m45...ill probably go N/A

if you use ANY quad head DO NOT use the pacesetter header...infact dont use a header on ANY quad head...the the HOquad exhaust manifold flows better than probably any 2.4 header on the market...there is only ONE header for a quad but it will not fit our jbodys.....YET
if you dont believe me on this when you get your 086 head sit it down beside your head,or ANY other jbody head for that matter..2.4 2.2 eco...you can actually SEE how much bigger the ports and valves are...not to mention the header wont even bolt up hehe

I will definietly take your word on it...i was gonna have a flange made and it modified. But i can always buy the one for the wrong body style and get that modified, if there is enough money in the bank that is lol.

I just saw this post, someone is thinking like me.

I posted my findings about the HO cams. The quad4 forums write up says you can't run HO cams on our cars without a standalone. It may be doable now with HPT but i dont know.

For me the only reason i would go with HO cams is if i would have to get custom dished pistons for the secret cams anyway. If that was the case then i might as well go bigger and get the HO cams. I just posted this question in my thread, waiting for responses.

Good luck on!

Yes how I agree about the bigger cam if im gonna get different pistons any ways, Sooooo will the 9-1's have enough dish or do i need the 8.5-1's or is it a custom deal? If thats the case I'll stick with the secret cams but if the HO will fit id rather use them.

ya know...IM still confused as to why the clearance is such a big deal..i mean...the quads came with 10 : 1 flat top pistons and even with the HO cams there was no clearance issues with the valves...so the way i see it is..your using the quad head,so as long as your pistons dont come above the block deck height(like the quad) then there shouldnt be a problem..am i missing something?

makes sence to me...i was going on the scattered things i read around here

It is becuase the HO engine's pistons are dished, and by dished i mean there are semi - circles cut in the top in the positions of where the valves would hit, if i understand it correctly as i have never taken appart an HO engine, yet. Hope that helps, let me know if you go HO and how it went. Tuning and clearance wise. Thanks.

by dish i think you mean "valve reliefs" and yes the stock HO pistons had slight valve reliefs on the intake side...so i either get your pistons with the reliefs or a 9.5:1 should be enough...here is a pic of the HO pistons in my blown quad sitting in my garage..hope it helps a bit

The custom 8.6:1 Wiesco forged pistons I got from Karo at CarCustoms are dished and have valve reliefs cut in them, with my 086 head & 2.4 block I'll get between 9.6 :1 and 9.85:1 cr so I don't think the will be any valve to piston issues. But if there are any competent machince shop can flycut the pistons for the needed clearance.
