I have a 1996 Cav z24 with no motor or trans, I was wondering if I could put a regular 2.2 with a 5 speed trans in, instead of paying the high price the salvage yards want for a 2.4 motor and 5 speed trans, since its going to be just a winter beater, what would I have to change, or will it go right in. Any help will be great. Thanks, Josh

should go right in, but you'd need the PCM for the 2.2 and maybe the wiring depending on the year of the 2.2

i got a 97 convertible with a 2.4 should i build the motor up or what cool swaps could i get away with puttin it it first and what is the best option for me to do? i might be thinkin of the ecotec and tranny, or would love to know what other motors would work in my 97 2 door 2.4 5 spd let me know

Holy threadjack Batman!!! Why don't you try running a search first, or just reading some of the 746,850 threads asking pretty much this same question?

My question is why would you step down to a 2.2 in a Z? If you dropped an Eco that might be alright but.....

I would do it because the car is just going to be a winter beater and a 2.2 is cheaper and easier to find than a 2.4, believe me if I could find an eco setup for cheap I would do that instead.

Where are you at? I have an LD9 for sale in SW Michigan. Might keep it and build it up, but if someone close wants it I might sell it.
