Alright. Ive read some post on the 2.3 swap but Im a little confused and just want some help. Pweeze!!!
First off, I just about got all your basic bolt-ons just for your info.
Question#1: Before I even get into it, Is this recommended for my car where it stands at now? If not, then when is?
Question#2: Is this a "direct swap". With no modifications?
Question#3: Is the windage tray reccomended?
Question#4: So if I just go in and rip out the balance shafts, thats an instant improvment with no negative reaction?
Question#5: Can I just be fine with the oil pump swap? (no balance shaft neutralized)
Question#6: JBP sells one. Is this a good buy or just get a new oem one from GMpartsdirect (also for what year, obvisouly a 2.3l, anything else)? Also whats the part#?
Question#7: Is there a pic by pic install assist on here?
If theres a previous post on here that discussed all this... Please give me a link. I spent an hour digging thru the past forums -under "oil pump swap"-. Thnxz again!

Eyes wide open ^^^^
My car has two speeds, fast and faster.
Heres the deal.
You have to drill new holes for the oil passage to the oil pump. You have to sleeve one of the holes and use JB weld or equivalent to seal the sleeve while it is in there You have to tap and plug the old holes that the hold pump used. The crank gear that drives the chain on the balance shaft assembly has to be replaced with the crank gear from a 2.3L. The windage tray is about the easiest of the installs, and is very beneficial in keeping the oil from sloshing around the crank. The pan has to be cut and welded to accomidate for the pump's pick up (You can just get one from
miller-performance. I waited on him to get over some moving problems for about 3-4 months. He is a great guy, I just caught him at a bad time in his life. I said screw it and I cut for the clearance and had a guy with a tig welder with a tip for aluminum do the welding.
I am sending the three of you the pics of the install that I recieved from Dave.
The NY-Jbody write up is slightly different in that you don't have to make the second drilling next to the #4 main. That is how I did mine.
Oh yeah and the block has to be cleaned (take it to a shop so that they can professionaly flush it) so it is necessary to do all of this modification with the block out of the vehicle.
It is not a direct swap, and requires block work (must know what your doing, or the shop doing it). If you were going to do this might as well build a motor at this point. For your mods this is not needed. I have heard some good things about the JBP oil pump which is a direct swap, not motor rebuild needed for it. I have considered getting one for my car as well.

Many thnxz guys.
I checked out the one on JBP and I think thats the way Ill go. Dont wanna get too deep into the engine. Afraid I might screw it up or something.

However... Does anyone on JBO have this mod on? Also, does whomever feel the balance shaft removal (neutralization) is worth its price?
