Ecotec Build Questions need answering

Hey guys, I have been doing a quiet a bit of reading and searching on the site about an Eco build as I plan on replacing my 2200 stock engine with a 2.2 turbocharged ecotec. I have found a great deal of information there are just some things that I couldn't particularly find and hopefully some people could help answer and give me some sort of advice.

First off I am looking at acheiving 300+ horsepower with a turbocharger. I have read about stock pistons blowing if not replaced so I am assuming those would have to be replaced. But other then that what other internals would need to be replaced or recommended to replace in order to sustain higher hp levels. What other kind of work would have to be done to the block?

Second off what kind of horsepower gains can I expect from upgrading the block alone (without the turbo).

Thirdly would a alcohol injection be a good idea to have for added power, slightly better fuel economy and to help cool the gas/air mixture.

Fourth just curious of what parts I need for this kind of swap. I understand I will need a compatible transmission, eco ecu, wiring harness. I have also heard things about the radiator and alternator having to be replaced, can this be confirmed?

Last any other suggestions I should consider for doing such a swap? Anything else I should be doing?

(I am pretty clear on most of the stuff that is required it's just I am not clear on everything and I would much rather have everything cleared up before I go ahead with any work. I am also aware it will cost a pretty penny but I am willing to invest that. It's still going to be cheaper then buying a SRT-4 or Colbalt , I am hoping)

Thanks for your help and advice in advance.

Oh one other thing. Someone told me instead of swapping ECUs I should run a stand alone engine managment system as it gives more control over fuel mixtures and I won't have to run HP tuners to do it. Is this adviced or would I be better off with stock ECU?

You know what I just found PJs post on the Eco (figures after I make a post looking for answers. Always find something after you ask and never when you don't). This cleared up a lot more for me .
But I am still curious as to what kind of engine work I could do to get 300+ horsepower and how much I can expect in gains from rebuilding the engine. And if alcohol injection would be worth my while for the added power. So still looking to have everything answered except for the parts I require for the swap

And maybe if anyone else who has done the swap could give me some advice

thats a lot of questions... i dont kno anything about the swap but i know you need alot of parts, time, money... experience and knowing what you are doing is optional of course....

meth/alchol/water injection... only if you are boosted... as far as i kno... i have never heard of a n.a car getting meth injection...

build hp results.... unless you get higher compression pistons then dont expect to see gains....stock is 10:1 you should go with forged lower compression pistons.... also, rods... bearings, headgasket, head studs, and thats all i can think of for the bottom end right now... and if you are looking for 300ish that should be fine... you could build your head too!!

what engine to choose.... people like the 2.4 and the eco for boost... id personally go with the eco because there is a lot of aftermarket support for them...

|Forged 8.9:1 Wiseco Pistons|Forged Eagle Rods|HPTuners|60trim|Tial Wastegate|
|Precision Intercooler|2.5" Exhaust|2.5" Charge Pipes|630CC Mototron Injectors|
|Stock: Fuel Pump, Transmission, Manifold, TB, Head, Head Gasket, Ignition, Suspension...|

Thats what I am planning on doing. Right now money is the issue so I am just doing all the research I can on the project before I go through with it. That way I can ensure I get all the parts I need, make sure I get the job done right, make sure I am not spending money I don't need to.

Just curious if I should be investing the extra money to go with titanium internals. I am also going to be going with the Hahn racecraft turbo stage 2 I believe, intercooled and possibly have the portfueler (maybe I could get more info on the portfueler and what it does besides give me more power.)

Thanks guys
