K&N drop in on Eco, oem intake.... bong or no
Sunday, August 13, 2006 10:16 AM
as the title says

04 5-speed eco, stock intake setup, with a K&N drop in filter. Should I even waste my time pulling the bong out or just leave it alone?

Yeah I know this is a total noob question.... I've never fallowed whats going on with gay mods like this (just a drop in rather then an intake) hahahhaah

if your planning on doing the whole intake at some point I would, but if not it doesn't really matter.

Well I preaty much went all out on the silver cav.... this one is just going on my beater/daily driver. I gave a friend a cone filter back in the day so he returned the favro yesterday and gave me a free drop in K&N, I'm not going anywhere near as crazzy with this car, so no no real intake, just sticking with the drop in

Its the plastic intake tube that is down in the driver side fender.

the "bong" is the intake resonator, located by the driver side front wheel.

The people on here are so stupid. Look at the bong tubing it has a pipe that is about 1.8 inches. So your saying a 1.8 inch holes flows just as much as a 2.75 inch hole. Your stupid!!!! Oh and instead of that you could drill a bunch a holes in the air box below the filter to let more air in. It will help a bit!! cya dont listion to these total tool bags who just want to flame every one!! They make this website not so good!

Darkstars, taking the 'bong' off will not only give you some noise, but it WILL let the air enter more smoothly into your intake. Since you won't have that twisty piece of plastic in there, the air flow will be smoother and easier flowing. FACT!!!

you know damn right that it isnt going to gain you more than a half a horsepower, so why waste time posting about it?

I took my bong out, there's a slight growl now from the driver's side fender. Power gains? It seems a little faster right towards the redline but at normal RPM ranges it feels about the same. So I'm guessing it's a 1 hp gain at 5500 rpm. Plus it saves about 5 lbs of weight.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

remove it. You'll drop about 5 pounds off the car, all that plastic adds up. I have a huge bag of all my stock intake parts, weighs a fricken ton I tell you.

Like alot have already said, just remove it cause its useless, itll free up some room for air to get thru and itll free up some weight, better than just having it sit there doing nothing.

okay, here's a good question for you guys then....

When I go to the racetrack should I remove my driver side front corner lense? That would allow considerably more air into the intake bong, I would think. Also, if I DID remove that turn signal lense to allow air into the fender would it work more to my advantage having the bong to catch the air or NOT having the bong and letting the air just find it's way to the airbox?

I took mine out in like 5 minutes but the bumper was already off

I think I may just rig up some kind of ram air.... the beater has no fogs so I might just weld together a sheet metal box behind the drivers fog light, seal it flush against the bumper and run a pipe/tube up to the bottom of the air box, I'll chop the top collor off the bong and attach the piping to that so it will still fit tight to the air box and silicone it in place.

raim air/ cold air intake with stock look and next to no cost involved

This is why doctors will give one person out of five a placebo when testing a new drug. To see if they are imagining some great results that aren't really happening.

Same goes with these theories about opening up the stock intake for wonder increases in raw horsepower. Sure, better flow = more power, in caveman terms.

But the true gains in an aftermarket intake for a Cavilier are not in the filter, but in the tubing. It's not just a 'peice of pipe', look how the stocker flattens out near the throttle body. Tell me that doesn't restrict just a little? The aftermarket units cure that gross engineering blunder. Sure, they're expensive, but there's a reason you spend more for them.

or, instead of going through all that trouble......

get a piece of flexible clothes dryer vent hose and use that. It's lighter than a sheet metal box, costs less for materials, and will take literally 5 minutes to hook up. Just clamp it to the backside of the foglight hole and to the opening on the airbox.
