JDM Exhaust?

Ok, was looking around on Ebay checking out the new stuff when I came across this exhaust. Despite the fact that whoever put up this page sucks at the english language, but to my untrained eyes it seems like a good deal to me. That is why I'm asking all of you before doing anything. I know I can go to a local muffler shop and have them make me one. I have already done that and, my car is way to loud and raspy. I hate how it sounds right now. So I have been looking around at exhausts and I'm wanting stainless steel, and mandrel bends. Yes I know mandrel bends are pretty much useless on jbody's. But I just want them simple as that. So for $199.99 does this look like to be a good deal on a exhaust system? Right now I have a 97 Z24 with Pacesetter Header, and Catco Cat, and 2.25" custom catback exaust with a fart can. Thanks for the info. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/JDM-SPORT-95-02-CAVALIER-SUNFIRE-CATBACK-EXHAUST-SYSTEM_W0QQitemZ260015272986QQihZ016QQcategoryZ33630QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

from the looks of it, its probably going to sound like a fart. id check out some apexi worldsport mufflers if you want a quieter, less raspy sound. otherwise, throw on a resonator.

by the way, mandrel bends are great for j-bodies.

Well, I'm sure mandrel is good for any car really, but for the price diff, you are not seeing anything from a shop made pipe to mandrels. Plus I'm also looking at getting the whole catback not just the muffler. Is the whole catback really going to make a diff sound from on pipe to the other?

I've been in this situation before. I got a complete custom exhaust from the header back, split into duals, and the car sounded absolutely terrible. I had 2.5" piping, no cat, a tiny resonator, and 4.5" magnaflows... I thought the 4.5"s I ordered were the total diamater of the muffler, but that was the size of the opening. In retrospect it was a terrible idea II replaced things one at a time, to get the sound that I wanted. I started off getting rid of the grapefruit launchers and putting on some magnaflow super turbo mufflers. They are standard looking oval mufflers, but they flow decently enough, and did a lot better job at muffling sound. That helped a bit but the car was still really loud and raspy. Then I got a better resonator put on. The biggest I could find in fact. I believe it's around 26". The car sounds much better now. It might not perform as good as it did, but not looking like an idiot with a really stupid sounding exhaust is more important to me. All I want to do now is make it single exit.

My advice is to do what I did, just slowly tune it. There are different types of resonators, in different sizes that will get you the sound you are looking for. Switching muffler styles helps a lot. I know a few people who have put two mufflers in a row and that has helped them a lot. It might be better than just going and buying a whole new exhaust system...

...whattttt?

yes we all know jbodies don't come with internal combustion engines, therefore exhaust flow doesn't mean diddly. They're powered by magical leprechauns so crush bent exhaust is ok since the little guys like a little fight when blowing into the straw.

mandrel bent is always better than crush bent or any other type of bend, period. It could be on a pinto, mandrel bends will outflow all the time

<smashes head on desk>

yes its going to be louder. Pipes are argumentative depending on what material its made out of... being that its ebay, I'd be a bit wary about the claim it's "stainless steel".

The muffler will probably suck. Just cut it off and drop some bucks on a nice muffler, expect to spend around $200 ont he muffler alone if you want quality.

the diameter of the pipes also alters how the car sounds and how loud it is. 2.25" pipe will sound one way, while 3" pipe will be another way (deeper at idle, louder at WOT)

but be wary, pipe thats too large will hurt mid range performance n/a

Well, what is a good cat-back setup with stainless steel and 2.25" tubing that is mandrel bent, and has a nice muffler? I'm wanting a good low none raspy sound, but still getting good performance. The only one that seems to be creditable is RKSport's single exhaust. Any others?
