Ok it has listed here about running the cam and rockers out of a 95-97 2.2. I was wondering if anyone has done this and if so what was the outcome? It's supposed to take the lift from .420-.460 inch valve lift. Please let me know whats up and the success or downfall of this swap. Also should it be a fairly easy swap. I'm sure that I'll have to pull the motor out. let me know whats up thanks. I'm planning on getting another motor and pulling the head and porting it out anyway and adding a quad 4 tb and OBX header. Also looking at a yank 3000 rpm stall converter and Megan racing cat-back with high flow cat and resonator. Thanks in advance again.

I asked this exact question myself about a few months ago and i got an answer of no its not really a "secret Cam" like the LD9 has. not worth it at all. If your interested in doing a cam swap and some new rocker arms, thier is a slew of posts concerning the subjects just search for them. I myself did the Crane rocker arm switch and got a good bit of mid range power from it. Cam's, however, with their higher lift, limit the ratio for rocker arms for their lift you can use. If i can point you in a general direction, do a search for 2200 rocker arms and take a look at what Madjack has written.

Yea I have checked that out I just didnt know if this was worth the time or not. I have a desktop dyno program that I was gonna research it on but I cannot find the disc. I am just curious to this.

Another thing to note on the cam swap, the timing grove on the 2.2L cam is different from the 2200s, it causes erratic idle problems. A regrind is the best bet, just get the cam from the spare motor and send it to Crane Cams (or you favorite cam manufacturer) and get it reground. On that head, go ahead and get the +1mm valves from Karo @ Car Customs, surface the head about .025" (will net approximately 9.2:1 compression ratio) and the appropriate rocker arms for a max valve lift of .470". Also look into the Cometic head gasket, you can get them thinner than the stock gasket for a little more compression and thighter quench.

If you go with Crane, call 386/252-1151 and talk to Tony Shultz (he's the head tech and is covering the sport compact section till they train a new tech) and tell him what you have planned for the car and motor and he'll get you set up with the right cam.

I'd reccomend the Powermax 2030 grind (204*/214* @ .050" lift, .029"/.452" valve lift) ground with four degrees of retard and w/ 1.5 rockers. With the mods you've listed above, this will give you about the same thing as I listed in the 2200 Power Record thread. You'll be making outstanding torque and horsepower across the board for a 2200. With the proper tune, you should be making just a little more HP and alot more torque at lower rpms than a stock Eco! Thats not bad for an OHV with the same displacement!

I dont think I'm gonna bother building the OHV I'm just gonna put the money away and either do the 2.4 or eco swap. I just looked and you cannot get much power at all out of this motor. it will make some torque but no horsepower.

torque * RPM / 5252= Horsepower.....

you do the math

torque wins races, hp sells engines. which concerns you more?

I want a combination of both. From the looks of it though I'm gonna put some money away after my suspension and get the Eco swapped in since thats the cheepest and easiest route.

I'm not sure where you came up with that. If you're using an old copy of Desktop Dyno you need to remember that it probably doesn't model the latest roller cam profiles correctly. And you also need to select the correct cylinder head type.

The only advantage to the Eco in my mind is that you have a good base engine for a very high powered four cylinder with readily available parts. But cheapest and easiest.... probably not.
