You guys ever heard of the subaru 2.5rs swap into a cavalier? Fitting and mounting would be a lot of work but what about the transmission? Wouldn't you have to cut your floor and modify it to get the tranny in? I found an article on some guy that swapped a subaru 2.5rs engine in and converted the car over to the subaru drivetrain. Kinda got me thinking. Opinions welcome.
my opinion?

sorry. i didn't mention in the beginning what was swapped. it was a subaru 2.5rs engine swap. i am pretty sure hat the tranny was too because the engine was positioned in the same way it would've been in a subaru. unless the guy custom mounted a different tranny.
It would be cheaper to buy an sti than to put a @!#$ty 2.5 in a cavalier. Besides why would you want the 2.5rs engine? it makes less power than the eco does if i remember correctly

naw i wanna live thanks. you can die if you want. i only asked a question. didn't say anything to give you a reason to tell me to die.

i never said i wanted it. just wanted to know if any of you guys knew anything about this. and if it requires a lot of work to be done.
i am not returning to this topic. moderators you can lock it or delete it.

nope, its a bolt-in. go ahead and do it.
god i am so sick of these ridiculous and retarded posts. can we please just program the forum software to automatically lock any thread saying "can i fit _____ engine in a cavalier?"
The long of it, there's no trans in existence that would work in transverse configuration. so you'd have to convert to awd. good luck fitting all that under the cav unibody without making your own whole new floor practically. Not to mention finding someway to swap in the whole 2.5rs suspension as well. all that, for less hp to the wheels than an ecotec with probably another 500 lbs more weight.
The short of it? No, and if you have to ask, you don't have the skills, the time, or the resources to do it. Period.

Its more like a eco vs 2.4 issue. Your better off with the eco.
It'd be interesting to see it without the extra weight of the RS. your biggest problem is the transmission.
Not worth it, better to sell the cav and just buy the RS.

while were at it I just so happen to have a dana 60 rear, a t88 turbo, MoTecH powerd exaust and some pinstriping just sitting in my closet. can I install these on my 2200. comon' guys

when you beat someone in a civic people wine and make excuses
when you beat someone in a cavalier they pull over and check under thier hoods
The bottom line... you can install any engine and trans in any car... but you'll end up doing a lot of custom work to make it happen. You'll end up re-engineering most of the car. And it will be horribly expensive, just to be unique. Likely in excess of thousands and thousands of dollars, depending on who you get to do the work for you.
This is answered the Library FAQ already.
Why's everyone bashing the scooby 2.5RS? Granted they are over-rated, three of my friends have them and I beat them no problem with my 2.4, but the stock ratings for it are 160hp, 165lb-ft torque if I remember. "GOT A FLAT 4 YOU KNOW THE SCORE".... I hope I'm kidding.
my buddy swapped a sti engine into a 2.5rs... car hauls ass
Hmmm...you havent worked at a Subaru shop before have you, because the 2.5 is the worst motor Subbies have ever came with. Ever hear one run on a cold winter morning? I would take a WRX with the 2.2 ANYDAY over the friggen 2.5. 96sunfire, if your buddy swapped a sti engine into a 2.5, hes not very smart...haha...same motor, minus the turbo and supportive parts. The subby AWD tranny taht they use in 95 percent of their cars is huge and is transverse obviously, good luck getting taht in a Cav. Suspension wouldnt fit without serious modification, so....out of all of the suggestions, this one is the worst I have EVER heard.
i agree stick 2 a good gm branded eco
Anybody talking about doing anything like in this thread has to be the smartest person on JBO with down syndrome. Why ask dumb questions? Hey I know why people ask dumb questions, because they love to get flammed. Start up the fire pit boys we gonna have ourselves a BBQ

I would love to see this article. Do you have pics?
the n/a 2.5 is notorious for head gasket problems... IF you were gonna do it, at least go for a wrx or sti engine that would make it worth while.
fst cavy... 2.0 in the wrx until 06... then it was the 2.5 but detuned to not outperform the sti.
bottom line... you want a subaru, buy a subaru.
WRX was a 2.2........your probably thinking of an EVO 2.0
Fst Cavy wrote:WRX was a 2.2........your probably thinking of an EVO 2.0
No, wrx = 2.0L (ej20)
I think the japanese wrx was 2.2 back before the wrx came to the US.
I know in GT4 they call it the 22B. lol.
wrx is a 2.0... was under the hood of one tonight. perhaps you are thinking of the 2.2 turbo that was in the 91-94 turbo legacys (and possibly the 22b)
That is what I am thinking about...I thoguth they had the same motor...never worked on many of them, but I thought they had the same motor just newer technology, I dont know, and I sadly worked at a Subbie dealer-alternative, oh well, can't get eveyrthing right.
And as for the 2.5 n/a motor being a crappy engine, I will have to disagree. Performance wise it lacks, the awd kills the power and weighs it down a bit.
But reliabilty is excellent. A couple months back we replace an engine on one.
We were told this was the first 2.5L saab 92x engine to blow in north america.
2.5 turbo engines aren't bad... the ej25 n/a engines have problems with head gaskets... check any subaru forum.
Why the bashing. I've seen it done, and have thought about doing it.
To be honest, chevy doesnt make the best motors in the world, so whats wrong with being a true tuner and doing a swap like this.
I gave up on the idea because the cost of the motor and drive train would be too high, though i do have a 4g63t AWD motor and drive train donated to me for my swap, but i dont think i'm going to do it.
Long story short, while chevy makes crap motors, aftermarket parts can make them somewhat useable.
