Ecotec 5spd Swap into 98 Z24 Auto *PIX*

So Kyle's 2.4L auto took a dump a few months back. Here is what his car looked like last year:

We decided to do an ecotec 5spd swap instead of just going back to the 2.4L. He picked up a cut-car. Its an 04 sunfire with 50.000km (30,000 miles).

Well last night we finally got busy with the sawzall and started tearing the donor apart:

For anyone one curious, there is actually TWO mounts have have to be welded into a 95-99 in order to do the ecotec/5spd swap, not just 1. There is a mount below the battery tray, and a second mount below the master cylinder. Rumour has it that you can buy these mounts from GM (instead of having to try to cut them out) Does anyone know a part number?

Thanks!

Ya, itis a bit of a mess, but nothing is leaking... when he bought the car it sat outdoors with no hook on it for about a week. it did have the intake plumbing still on it so it should be fine. Either way the engine is getting torn-down & rebuilt with wiseco pistons & eagle rods to handle the turbo that is going onto it

You had no problem pulling it out without removing the axles?

we just in-did the bands and seperated the shafts. he is getting bullet-proof drive shafts so we didnt really care too much about these ones. Also, with not being able to step on the brakes to stop them from spinning while turning the axle nut, and having sat with no wheels on it for a week, the nuts were rusted right on.

Only the rear one can you buy from GM. I have the part number at home. The front one you can buy from Turbo Tech Racing. We have always known there was two mounts if swaping from a auto to a manual that had to be swapped. If swapping from a pre2000 manual to a 2000+ manual you can use the 95-99 front tranny mount, and just re-drill a new hole.

Oh alright. I was wondering in why all the swap threads people are refering to just 1 mount, but we found that coming from his auto there was 2 mounts. If you could get me that part number for the rear mount would be greatly appreciated!

Actually you do not. The 2000+ set-ups wil rum without a gauge cluster, of course you would not have gauges.

Make sure you post pics and instructions when you actually install it, so other 2.4 twincams can follow suite! Please

This information already exists. It does not matter what motor (2200, or 2.4) your are going from it si still the same work. What matters is if it is or was a manual (5 speed), or Auto, and if the car is 95-99, or 2000+. That information matters for the same reason regardless of motor type.

So we got the cabin completely stripped last night. Got the dash & all the cabin wiring out. Pulled out all the pedals, as well as the suspension:

And here is the remains of the chassis ready to go to the metal recyclers:

All thats left on it is the rear trans mount before it leaves... were gonna try to cut it out and see if we have any luck. Otherwise GM wants $55cdn for a replacement mount.

no gauge cluster is actually a good thing, because this is going into it:

it just needs to be painted and align / bolt down the gauges.
