Ok,
I heard that if your header is NOT ceramic coated, you will have problems. Is it NECESSARY to get the ceramic coated header as opposed to the stainless?
thanks for reading,
Chris
i have not heard that. the steel black pacesetter header rusts when put on the car. but what people dont realize is they are supposed take that black paint off since its there for shipping. then have it coated with ceramic or whatever
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
not true, a coated header takes longer to rust, thus more reliable, and the coating makes the inside hotter, which is better for performance, also, since its ceramic coated, it makes engine bay temps cooler. As for stainless, it will rust over time, performs better than a stock manifold (if designed well), and tends to be cheaper.
But what you're saying is that over all, the ceramic coated header is better for performance, and maintenence for the car, correct?
Yes all ceramics are better, they reduce underhood temps, and resist rust better.
All the guys on the Vette forum use them as opposed to the staniless, unless you are going for strictly show. Then you will want the stainless polished to look good.
As far as performance there is not much diff except the lower engine bay temps.
stainless will resist rust depending on the grade used , some grades will rust
disadvantage is the same as a steel header , both will allow more heat into the engine compartment
the ceramic coating is a thermial berrier , and works at keeping heat inside the header , but yet allowing the header to expand and contract normally
you can ceramic coat stainless

Jet hot stearling coat is a better option then polished stainless, finish holds up better a ton less maintenance ect..
If you do go Cermaic though, be careful when installing it, it has the tendency to stain from oils on the hands etc, mine's got a slight goldish tint from changing the O2 sensor without rubber gloves on. The coating is in good shape, just will stain.
Thanks for the help!
I think I am going to get the DC Sports Ceramic Coated Header....
Chris
I hear for the 03 you'll want to have a new "B" Pipe fabricated, it pretty much just replaces the stock manifold. On my 2.4, the DCSport replaces the manifold all the way to where the catback attaches, and comes with no cat (had to have one welded in).
"B" pipe? I have not heard anything about this...
