Pulling My Motor - What to Hook To?
Sunday, July 16, 2006 6:23 PM
I am pulling my motor tomorrow along with the tranny attached. I can get a hook into the motor mount bracket on the passenger side, but what is the best place to hook up on the other side?

Yes hook to the motor mount (it has a hole for that). On the drivers side rear came tower there is a braket with a hoop/hole.

if you got the 2.4 there should be another hook on the rear part of the engine on the driverside..look near the cam tower

Well, I think I found it. It is the plate coming off of the end of the exhaust cam tower. It sure is thin steel with only a few tiny bolts holding it. That will support the motor?!

Yup and the trans too. I've done it more than once, no issues here.

YOU WILL bend that cam tower plate... don't worry you can bend it back and repaint it later.

You will....news to me...I have pulled and replaced 5 or 6 2.4's now....I have never bent that loop. Motor only tho 5 speeds are easier to take with the tranny, but out the bottom!

How the hell do you bend that plate?? I've never ever seen a bent one.... and I've spent more than enough time pulling entire drivetrains from wrecked cars....

the best way we found to do it is drop the subframe, and lower the motor wtih tranny out the bottom. then lift up the car and slide everything out. (dont be afraid to use the cherry picker to lift up the front of the car haa).
brian and i dropped my motor out in 3 hours including clean up.

luke- i will call you sometime this week. maybe this weekend i can make a trip out by you.

ive bent that plate , it usually depends on the angle you pull it on , and if the motor gets hooked on something

i usually put my bent plate on a motor when i pull it , just in case

down force , there should be 2 places to pull on sor yours also
