Hey guys, just joined. Have a question about purchasing a header for my 2.4L '97 cav. I've been looking around at a few upgrades under the hood (mainly, new intake and header, don't plan on going with a whole new exhaust).
I went to the
pacesetter site and they mentioned with the header, the catalytic converter would need to be relocated, that it was 50state legal...but then the fine print mentioned legal for only racing vehicles and not legal on the highway.
This is my only and every day car, so if I get some upgrades I obviously want to be street legal. Are there any headers that are street legal?
I'm new to this stuff and haven't done anything with my car yet, so any info is greatly appreciated.
Also, I'm set on getting an
Induction Dynamics intake. They replied back in a day with questions I had and I was wondering if anyone here has had experience with them.
Sorry if this was long, and I hope I have it in the right forum.
the header is 50 state legal , and you dont have to move the cat
Since your registry doesn't really say where you are from, if you live in Cali, stick with the PaceSetter.
I'm in South Carolina. I just noticed from the search that a lot of people liked the pacesetter and considering TurboTech offers it for $143 and the only other thing I've seen is the RKSport @ $450, it looks like a steal.
Wow, looking now, TurboTech has a whole exhaust system that's pretty cheap.
But yeah, just seeing if this stuff is legal.
well, since SC doesnt have Inspections, it really doesnt matter IIRC...
dont forget about DC i dont know if there cheaper the pace setters but thats another brand.
I have the Tsudo header on mine and i love it. Its stainless steel. I bought it through one of my distributors through work but you can find it on ebay. Its a real nice header and not hard to install.

I dont think DC's is CARB legal (the 2.4's has no cat), but i do think that if you add one (be it aftermarket or stock), it wont matter in terms of being street legal.
Just to let you know (Tyler) the pace setter exhaust (cat back) sucks. Sounds like a$$ and will rust out on you in about a year, do not buy that cat back at all.
GIT 'ER DONE!
Figured it was too good to be true. Oh well, I'll just save up for something a lil better.
none of the pacesetter catbacks here have had any problems
alot of the rust issues came from the inside of the tip , which is now all stainless , so no more rusrty tip
also if you live in a area that uses alot of road salt if you dont wash the road salt off the exhaust , the road salt will eat through the aluminized coating , and cause it to rust faster than normal
my friends with a 2.4 just needed a resonator added , and it sounds good , he has the header and high flow cat
also his car with the pacesetter catback sounds 10 times better than my cav with rkcrappy's catback , and i have a header and high flow cat as well

If you don't get stainless, get the coated Pacesetter. The Coating is worth the coin, really makes a difference long term.
