Individual Throttle Bodies

I just learned about ITB's today and was wondering if anyone on JBO has done this to something. I'm amazed by it and I really dont think it would be that difficult. ANy info is cool.

its extremely difficult to do, and on a small engine not worth it. unless you drive a bmw.

Yeah, I agree. Wouldn't you have to fab up a custom intake manifold? Along with many other issues.

I was happy when I heard my car ran 10s. Then I found out that was 0-60.

That's funny....last time I checked most, if not all, of the fastest NA 4 cylinders used ITBs...and those are small motors.

do a search, someone tried this in the past, and was just a big headache.

if you'd look past the few simple words i wrote, you'd realize that theres some "understanding" you have to do when reading.

How can I read anything but what you wrote? You wrote that they were worthless on smaller engines and I posted something against that...I don't see where my reply was off target at all.

haha, i love how so many people on here are too lazy to ever bother to fab up their own @!#$. if you look at other 4 banger makes out there, people are constantly fabing up tons of custom stuff. im not dogging the site, i love this place and always read stuff on here but people don't need to completely disregard people ideas because they are too hard to build. this may be a small part of this community, which it is but don't your laziness.
ITB's are sweet and almost made a set for my ecotec at one point but i am now looking at building just a new intake manifold. Check out this site about making ITBs -->http://www.homemadeturbo.com/tech_projects/itb/

I don't think our engines, from 2.3's through eco's, rev high enough to really take advantage of ITB's. It just seems like alot of work for something you won't be able to take full advantage of. Alot of the big power NA motors using ITB's seem to redline anywhere from 8K+, and have the cams and headwork to push their powerbands into areas above our stock redline.

15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?

Unless you have a race engine, or an engine that's heavily modified, ITBs are a waste of money and time.

I got 1 or 2 intake manifolds already for ITB's one is for the 2.4 and one is for the Ecotec... also.. if I am not mistaken they can be used for dual webber carbs.. 48mm I think...

I will clean them up a little and post some pictures when I get back.. I have to get them sandblasted and all cleaned up... but I will post pictures soon...

you are absolutely right, but if someone where to make a n/a engine it wouldn't be hard to make the redline higher, especially on the ecotec. and it would be worth it especially on the ecotec probably.

i totally agree with you here, most people don't want to learn about their own car, they bring it to a shop that will do the work for them . its kind of pathetic..

yeah thats the problem with ITBs on our cars is that they make the most power at high rpms. but i am no one will know what ITBs will do to our cars until someone tries it out and dynos it.

I know there was a post way back about ITB's and someone posted a pic, now I don't remember who made the post or topic or where to get the ITB's but I did save the picture:

**I have a feeling they are for a european car with the Ecotec though**

I really like this idea, might have to give it a try when im not working 75 hours a week.

Re: Individual Throttle Bodies

Nobody has ever done it on an USDM engine yet, some EUDM engines have kits todo it but wont work for us.

Guess nobody has had the balls todo it yet

I'd do it if I wasn't supercharged and was being payed more than $14.67/hour CAD

I don't get why everyone knocks ITBs but let's review, shall we?

"It's a pain in the @ss to fab an intake to fit them."

---- Um, the ITBs ARE the intake unless you want to build a plenum to take in air and feed them. Keep in mind that although the individual volume is smaller, the total volume is greater, and a plenum will likely hinder performance unless you plan to use boost to feed them - such as in a Champ car, for instance, where a master TB feeds ITBs via a plenum. Using an adaptor flange to take a kit made for another car is an easy solution. Kits from places like Fuji Racing typically include all the linkages and sensors and such. Admittedly, I'm not entirely sure on the fuel rail and injectors, but if they're not included I'm sure it wouldn't be all that hard to figure it out.

"They're not worth it on smaller cars."

---- Tell that to Fuji Racing, Toda, Mugen, MG, Austin Healey, etc.

"Unless it's a BMW."

---- Everyone is entitled to an opinion but seriously, that's just ignant.

"They're only good in the upper RPMs." - or - "Our engines don't rev high enough."

---- The power band when using ITBs is determined by the ITBs themnselves. By changing the air horn and velocity stack you can put the power where you need it. Some kits allow the option of buying multiple stacks and horns to tune the setup for your needs. The guys who say they were displeased with the results after using ITBs either didn't do their research or had unrealistic expectations. Most likely they bought the biggest stacks and horns they could get - and then wondered why it didn't work.

For those of you wondering, I'm working on an ITB setup using GSXR 1000 TBs Its not cheap, I shoud have just threw a 75mm on a log style manifold and called it a day.

I didn't even find those on their web site last time I was there. They still sell those?
