Hey guys, trying to figure this one out . . . Within a month or so I'm going to put on all new exhaust, so I'm looking around. No, I'm not asking for sound clips or what not, but what I am asking for is where you can buy the systems for, and what I need . . . I checked turbotechracing.com, and they have a Borla system for my car, but it has the oval end and I don't like that all too much . . The strange thing though is when I checked Borla's site and they said they had literally nothing for my car?? I know Magnaflow is an option, but I've read a lot better results with sound and performance from Borla's system . . . Anyways . . .
I was going to buy a kit that had the pipes, muffler, etc. My question is, do I really need a High-flow cat?? I don't plan on going turbo or s/c, and my car will only end up running with a new pulley, intake, etc. I don't think that would require one, but I'm not sure . . . Would my stock cat work for that? Also, when it comes to pace setter, obviously ceramic coated is the best, and if I bought the one off of turbotechracing and the Borla system, would it all work together?
Just kinda new to going all out new exhaust, so I'm trying to figure out what I need, and what I don't.
Thanks guys.
I think the Borla website is a little confused about the 05 model. I've seen this same confusion with other vendors as well. They have a cat-back system for your car. It is part number 14981. The 05 and 04 models are identical. Go back to the Borla site and put in 04 as the model year, and the correct part will show up.
As far as the cat is concerned, you don't have to do everything at once. If you aren't sure about your need for a high-flow cat, then why not just do the cat-back first. Additional improvements, such as a header and/or cat can always be done later.

1. i'd skip the pre-made kits, pick up your choice of muffler and tip and have a local shop bend up a custom exhaust system for you. it'll save you a decent amount of money.
2. your exhaust will only flow as well as it's smallest point. stock diameter is 1 7/8"... meaning, your stock cat will be restrictive compared to the new exhaust you are looking to install.
3. the stock downpipe has the cat welded to it (it's not flanged) so if you do a header, you might as well spend the extra $50 (or less) and have it put in if/when you do the header.
borla ftw.
Go with the custom setup. I was looking at the RKsport version of the magnaflow catback and its now $370. Then i would also have to get a cat and a resonator. so i got the muffler (14829) cat (94035) and a resonator for just over $200, and im expecting that a shop will charge no more than $100 to bend pipes and weld it all together. going custom im saving like $200, theres no better way to go.
Ill make a sig someday

This is not exactly correct. Flow restriction in piping, whether it is gaseous or fluid, is a function not only of the size, but also of the length of the pipe in question. All other parameters being equal, you can make a significant reduction in the overall flow restriction by increasing the pipe size from the cat back since this represents the great majority of the total exhaust system length. Probably of equal importance is getting rid of the stock muffler and resonator and the stock pipe which is compressed to significantly less than 1.875" in one area of the intermediate section.
i have the borla boomer series. it sounds great. went to ajusa.com just buy muffler u want and have a local exhaust shop do the piping for you. alot cheaper that way. also get the magnaflow cat converter.
So basically its best to buy a Borla muffler, a good header and high flow cat, and go to the shop and let them do the rest when it comes to installing and piping? Does anyone know the gain when it comes to this? I've read its like 10-15hp, but since I'm going with probably 2 inch piping with the Borla muffler, etc, like I mentioned, am I looking at more? Just wonderin.
