yea yea, perfect is relative. this post is for the "i want it quiet" posters.
so, originally - stock pipes, 14" regular dynomax super turbo. sounded nice and quiet with a low rumble outside, slight interior resonance that wasn't a problem.
new setup - pacesetter header, magnaflow high flow cat, 2 1/4" piping, 26" thrush dynomax resonator, and 14" super turbo muffler. still kinda quiet, except that there was VERY noticeable interior resonance, especially at 3k rpms.
so after researching and deciding, i bought the longer version of the super turbo muffler, 20". i posted on here, and there were many haters that said it wouldn't change.
well,
WOW what a difference.
the interior resonance is
COMPLETELY gone. its honestly so quiet, that it sounds too quiet!
i took it around town, and wow, what a difference. i then brought it home and messed with it. you can definitely tell there is more "overall" noise because of the header and the engine, but there is absolutely almost NO interior resonance. from the rear, you can slightly hear a rumble coming from the muffler tip, but again, no resonance through the body.
i must ABSOLUTELY say, that if you want a high performance, very quiet setup, this is the way to go. its kinda.... amg ish

at idle with the magnaflow catback and 20" Thrush its really quiet, any throttle makes the noise (the darned LD9 intake resonation), my setup isnt too much louder than with just intake, but i dont hear it so much now.
I have a 300mm Tenzo R muffler and its rice. I think thats 11.7" i think. I was wondering if a resonator would fix it, i am buying one in a week or so.
Sorry if this is thread jaking.

Sweet, I will be looking to copy your setup when I go s/c because thats all I want to hear, the s/c
Does Pacesetter make a 4-2-1 header for the 2.4 or are they all 4-1? I've found them on pacesetter's website and sfxperformance.com but they don't say if they're 4-1 or 4-2-1. I had a 4-1 pacesetter header in my 2.2 and I lost alot of rear end pressure, would it be the same in a 2.4 or less noticeable because it's a faster car?
all 4-1
i didnt loose any with mine
I'm still waiting on my pics of the exhaust Berto!
By the way its not soooo perfect when ur pipe is hitting ur axle hahahahaha

.
Had the 20in and interior resonance was b*tch. (5-speed)
Then sold it to my friend's sister 2004 Mitsubishi Galant and it was mellow quiet . One thing in common with both of you two is, that you're both Automatic... the exhaust guys told me: autos tend to be quieter of the two trannies when it comes to exhausts and were they ever correct.

pipe wasn't hitting the axle, it was that the bracket for the muffler was loose, like i @!#$ told them in the first place. god damn what i waste of my saturday morning.
and gerardo, you had the 20" and the 14", DUALS, your setup is completely different. call bs whatever you want to, lately, i just find that you're full of @!#$ anyway.

There's a super turbo muffler on Summitracing.com that says the case length is 20" and the overall length is 25", is this the same one you have?
#?

My set up is the magnapack 24 incher, OBX header, 2.5 inch pipes and dynomax super turbo single in dual out muffler with C6 Vette tips. It is awesome, really amazing how you can get a car that quiet and not kill performance. Not to mention all you hear is the SC
As for the thrush cherry bombs, dont use them they kill power!

Heh, a low-blow and pitiful that you have to result to that. (?) But I could care less what you think.
Yes, I did had the duals but... .
But when I went back at muffler shop to control the noise, I had the 14-incher removed and kept the 20-incher their as I was going to run a y-pipe at the end to connect to a dual/dual tip. And resonance was enough to vibrate mirrors and drone out the radio at mid-volume.
I guess your Cav has some sort of space-age acoustics to have no interior resonance.
Quiet outside? Yes.
Quiet inside? No.

I claimed bs since we have the same engine and the tone is the same. Also, since we both used the same brand of muffler, I claimed

on being "quiet" & "resonance being completely gone."
Again I reiterate, you must have some sort of space age acoustics in your car, or you compared to a open-header setup, or you have a different definition of quiet, or your ears are just messed up. lol

just get some sound clips
fine fine here you go. now, i couldn't take any fly by's because well, it wasn't easily feasible by myself.
the first clip is me going around a little bit, first few seconds are to about 5k rpms. now, the thing to listen to is the background hum......the resonance.....there almost is none

. the sound you hear is coming mostly from the engine, but a small amount of it does come from the muffler. that said, compare the level of sound of the engine to the sounds of the blinker and the lovely crash of my dash + dropped suspension + crappy roads. there you can get a feeling for volume.
and the second one is a warm startup.

sound level is really low , volume wise
but the first part of the first clip is a hell of alot quieter than my cav
sounds pretty dam good , and i hear no droaning resonance
The interior sound clip sounds exactly like the one you sent me a long time ago with 14incher. << That right there fooled me into buying Dynomax STs thinking it was going to be reasonable.
And it sounds exactly like my friend's sister Galant.

and that first clips i sent you years ago was with a 14" one on stock everything. add a header, high flow cat, and bigger piping, and things dramatically change.
and yea, i forgot to amplify it because my mic records really low. now they're slightly amplified

i tried many exhuast set ups in the past.
the one i love the most is the current set up i have :
stans header- 2.5inch 45inch long glass pack, some mangnaflow /rk cat back piping over the axle, and a 2.5inch dynomax muffler, to a stock looking turn down tip.
i couldnt be happier.
