What am I looking at for performance and sound with this set up? Will I be able to get the car inspected with it? Because the cops are really crackin down around here.
Alright, I'm looking at dynomax mufflers, and I don't know anything about them or which ones are better for sound/performance, I narrowed it down to 2 tho.
Dynomax turbo muffler
Dyno tests prove it--Dynomax's Super Turbo mufflers are the closest you can get to running an open pipe, but a lot quieter. To make things even better, Super Turbos have more features than most other mufflers put together--less backpressure for improved quarter mile times, aluminized construction for long life and good looks, patented flow directors that channel exhaust for maximum performance, and fiberglass matting for a deep, throaty, powerful performance tone.
OR
Dynomax Race muffler
If you want something better than your slow-flowing OEM muffler, these Race series mufflers are just what you need. With their straight-through design, you'll get added performance and a deep, aggressive tone. Other features include all-welded construction for maximum durability, all-aluminized construction for long life, and continuous roving fiberglass for maximum sound control.
The thing that made me not-so-sure about this one is the "straight through" design. I don't want anymore fart cans! Is this the same concept just different shape?
With a Magnaflow directfit catalytic converter so i'll have an outlet for the oxygen sensor, and i'll probly have to cut the flanges off, i know.
Dynomax resonator 26" Case length - 31" Over all length
These Magnum Glasspack mufflers give you maximum flow without annoying the sound police. They have free-flowing, perforated center tubes surrounded by two-stage fiberglass packing. Other features include AKDQ inlet and outlet bushings for easy expansion if needed, one-piece shell construction, and a performance tone.
And last but not least the Rksport 4-2-1 headeR (singular)
Oh yeah, almost forgot the Borla intercooled tip
Any thoughts?
I've used both the Super Turbo (on an old S-10) and the UltraFlo Welded (currently on my Cav). I have no complaints about either.
I currently have the UltraFlo(19" X 2 1/4") on my car with the Thrush Magnum Glasspack(35" X 2 1/4"), a 2 1/4" high flow cat., a PaceSetter Header and 21/4" mandrel bent pipes. The sound is deep and quiet, just slightly louder than stock, but flows much better. The 35" glasspack won't fit your car, since your exhaust come out the backside of the engine, so the 31" should be just about right (measure to make sure). To make It a little quieter try the 25" UltraFlo, if you want to try something similar to mine.
As for the cat, get a universal fit with the O2 sensor fitting and have the shop doing the work cut the flange off the header to fit the cat. Your exhaust will only flow the amount of the smallest section, which would be the cat and the flanges on it.
Also, what about a dual outlet Camaro muffler?
I don't want the exhaust to be too loud inside/outside the car but I also want good performance, and I definitely don't want anymore fart cans.
I'd Recommend the DCSport 4-2-1 Header instead of RKSports, its said to be of better quality, and is cheaper, the cat is 2", being a direct fit, you would want to order a 2 1/4" one, and have it welded in. I have a 20" Thrush Glasspack, and its a beaut to have, 26 might be too big to fit, but they say anything between 18-24" works.
that tip is gay. IMO. sorry. i have the dynomax straight through muffler, i dont know what its called anymore, its offset center setup, sound GREAT. not loud, just enough sound. stock tubing, stock header and intake.,
I would get the Dc sports header but they're never in stock, Dcsports have been really pissing me off with that.
Check Turbotechracing, from what it seems they have a pretty good stock of them.
IMO, dealing directly with the dealers is useless, unless u have in depth questions that only they can answer... its just not needed now, i mean with all the palces that sell the stuff for our cars online, you can get pretty much any ansewr you need... especially on this forum too... turbotech is a great one, gravanatuning is another, aplusperformance is yet another, i mean theres plenty of places to find the stuff, so search around... im sure someone else will name more,i just named the ones that came off the top of my head.
sounds like a good setup, dynomax is known to be a lot quieter than most, and def not a fartcan... typically the fartcan sound comes from the mufflers that are shaped like coffee cans with an extra hole in the bottom... and i am sick of that sound as well... theyre dumb. and those are what people who drive civics do when they want to sound powerful, without backing up that sound with a full exhaust system... again, IMO
good luck man.
lol I agree, thanks buddy.
