Dynomax Super turbo with or without resonator?
Monday, May 29, 2006 8:30 AM
I am planning on upgrading my exhaust to a 2.25 cat back system with a dynomax super turbo muffler. I ahve heard that dynomax mufflers are more quiet than most. Would it be too loud if I go without a resonator or should i go with one. I want amore deep mellow sound, nothingthatis toolous and raspy like a honda civic. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I heard those turbo mufflers were quieter than most high flow mufflers. I was going to get one, but the one I got right now I got as a gift.

i've ran many dynmax turbo mufflers, and each one i have ran, the damn baffles inside the muffler blew! and made a rattling noise!

your better off getting a magnaflow or some other type of muffler.

stop smacking the mufflers with a sledge hammer maybe?

it's called "muffler blow outs"

dynamax mufflers are cheaply made!

Let me guess...RK Sport told you that?

Dynomax mufflers are made by Walker Exhaust. Walker has been in business longer than either of us have been alive, and to this day they're still an OEM supplier and the most commonly sold aftermarket OEM replacement exhaust parts in the world. Their parts are consistently rated the highest quality in the industry, from the designs all the way down to the materials, fit, finish and welds. I've installed hundreds of Walker and Dynomax products on everything from farm tractors to cars to diesel trucks and I've never had one complaint about how they were made.

If you think they're "cheaply made", you go on believing that. Next time you want to give advice, try to make sure it's based on an informed opinion.

BTW... While we're on the topic of Walker.... anyone that ever wants to do a comparitive between models of cars to see how similar exhaust systems are should use their online catalog. Those diagrams are the exact same thing the guys in the parts stores would see in the printed book, and they're very detailed.

i have a resonator with super turbo and i think it sounds real good. not raspy at all. almost as quiet as stock at idle but still a sporty sound when i get on it. resonator came form jegs.com for under $20 i think.

Pep Boys sells Cherry Bomb glasspacks for $20 each. I'm sure the same (or similar) can be had at Autozone, etc.

I have a Flowmaster 50 Series Deltaflow muffler and a 23" glasspack as a resonator, my car does not sound close to stock so dont come in here making generalized misinformed comments.

^^^ and you are using a flowmaster exhaust. If you want something stock sounding flowmaster is not a good choice. I have heard a Dynomax with a long resonator almost stock sounding.

STAY AWAY FROM THRUSH TURBO CHERRY BOMBS THEY KILL POWER. The way they kill sound is by creating turbulance and spinning the gases. It is really restrictive, they suck and are heavy. Go with the magnaflow magna pack or a quality resonator.

I currently have the OBX header, high flow cat, 2.5 inch pipes, 24 inch magna pack, and a dynomax muffler, sounds awesome and really quiet.

I just have 2.5 inch piping and a dynomax muffler and it sounds great! there is a little tip on the end of the muffler too. mine is fairly quiet during idle but loud when i get on it. i like it that way tho...

I've got a NOPI (pacesetter knockoff) header, 53035 cat, 2 1/4" piping, and Dynomax Super Turbo with no resonator and it is raspy when accelerating hard. I don't know if you're running the stock manifold and cat, but if you've got a header and high flow cat I'd suggest a glasspack after the cat since you said you didn't want it to sound ricey.
