Just wanted to know, I found somone selling a 2.3 HO with getrag 5 speed for a fairily cheep price. I'm looking to rebuild it make it all nice then swap it in my sunfire. Now my sunfire is a daily driver so I just wanted to know if the 2.3 HO is a relaible engine for a daily driver?

well..if your talking about rebuilding it then make sure you replace the headgasket with a new one..since that was the worst part abou them..other than that it should be ok but i recommend adding the fan switch mod to keep it cool..quads like to keep moving ..as far as the getrag goes if its a 92+ ( has TWO mounts on it) then you can use it..if its an eariler model dont bother..just keep the engine and sell the tranny ...either way youll definetly like the added power over your old engine

its from a 1990 beretta GTZ, so the tranny won't mount up? is it even any better of a tranny then the 5 speed on the 97 2.4L?

it WILL mount up..BUT..if you look at it youll notice that transmission only has ONE mount...your tranny has TWO...you know what that means
is it a better tranny? yes..can you do even better than that ..yes
look for a 92+ getrag 5speed from a HO engine....itll have BOTH mount locations you need AND itll have a better gear ratio

x2

mine is a real nice motor, and the car is quite "peppy" now. also, there is a HUGE amount of performance for these motors, that I didn't know about. but lets just say I've found a few suppliers for my addiction LOL

alright, sounds good, thanks alot guys. im paying 400 for the whole car which isnt in that great shape but the engine runs good although it has over 250000km. im rebuilding that anyway. We'll if I don't feel like putting in that tranny what could I sell it for?

if your getting the whole car for 400 bucks then its well worth it..a couple things to remember though...you still need the pcm + engine bay wiring from a 95 Z or GT (which im sure youll like better anyway)
and try selling the tranny on ebay or on www.quad4forums.com ..dont forget your tranny will bolt up and work just fine, just wont be as strong and fast as it would with a getrag

thanks alot, i REALLY appreciate the help. I will be going to buy the car maybe tonight. Im going to take my time rebuilding the engine, no need to rush. so I may periodically be asking some more questions. is their a site or a detailed post giving that may help with the swap, i searched but didn't find anything detailed enough.

well thanks again!
