The stock valve cover won't clear the roller rockers because of the hieght of the intake rocker lock nut. Can't find tall valve cover, can someone help?
Howell Automotive has a decription of how to clearance the 2200 VC, if that is what you have? We dont know, you didn't finish your profile.
If you have a 98+, follow the Howell instructions. If you have a 94-97, Madjack could probably help you out, or you can buy a Moroso (I think it was) raised valve cover ($$$).

Madjack,
My motor is a 1996 2.2. Sorry I didn't think about the 2200. Do they make a tall valve cover? I called Summit, they didn't have one. Does anyone make one?
Howell has the Moroso, but it's $280.00.
I had the same clearance issues with comp cams rockers and their poly-locks. All the grinding in the world won't help. I took out the baffle for the breather and all the ridges on the inside still needed about a 1/4 inch for clearance. My car ran into to many issues and I ran out of money so I gave up. If you get the moroso valve cover you will definitely need a spacer plate made to raise your throttle body. The making a plate part discouraged me from pursuing this route again due to cost.
Hope this helps

Other than Howell, with the Moroso Valve Cover (VC), no one has a tall VC.
How much are the poly locks interfering with the VC? If they are just touching, then you can use a Dremel to grind a small dimple in the VC over the intake studs. If you need more, then get an extra VC and have the top portion cut/machined off, so that you only have the mounting rail, make sure the top is machined flat. Then use that monting rail as a spacer, w/ longer studs and gasket(for the spacer).
Or you could try another brand of poly-locks.
Thanks Guys, sure appreciate the help, Ray
does this mean i am gonna have to do a bit of modding to get my 1.6 proforms to work? i thought they fit right in?

GM actually used to make a magnesium valve cover that was something like 3/4" taller than stock, but its long been discontinued.
Has the grinding for the Howell directions worked for anyone? I kinda find it hard to believe that grinding those two places on the picture will help drop the valve cover far enough. Any successes?
I would believe it did. From what I understand, Event helped Howell and Crane develop this set up.
Does anyone have picks of the valve cover after you modified it for the rockers? or where you used the dremel
How about somthing like this?
Its for the 2200, but im sure I can make one for the 2.2.
All I need is a head, or valve cover, and I can design one up.
That one is $75, much cheaper than the $280 modified valve cover.
NICE! (and it's about time lol)

yea i got a 2200 S10 and im looking to do this conversion on it soon. Do you usually have those spacers available? What kind of gasket did you use in between the spacer and the head or is the spacer cut on the bottom so that the press in gasket can fit in it like on the valve cover?
thanks
I used comp cams 1.6 roller rockers on my old 2.2 and never had cover clearance issues. They used 3.1 v6 studs iirc.
If you did have clearance issues how much would you have to grind out of the stock valve cover? That's what i was originally trying to see if anyone had any pics after the took the dremel to the stock valve cover.
I can have those spacers made to order.
I made a gasket out of gasket material from advanced material!

Just trace it and cut it out.
does the hightened valve cover get in the way of anything?
Im not sure, but it only is 1/2" thick. It might not work with the stock 2200 intake, but im not sure since I dont have it.
