Exhaust flexible pipe
Tuesday, April 11, 2006 2:19 PM
Hi,

I am about to change my stock exhaust for a 2¼ custom all the way from manifold to muffler. I noticed that the flexible pipe on 2.2 ecotec stock exhaust is right after the manifold and is only about 2 inch long. I didn't find any replacement flexible that same size but with 2¼ inch diameter. My question is if I want to make a custom downpipe with a new 2¼ inch flange from the manifold down the engine and then install a 10 inch long flexible pipe and then the cat and the resonator finaly the muffler. Will it be ok? or the flexible must stay at the same place from stock just after the manifold?

thanks

As long as there's a flex piece somewhere close to the beginning of the run, you'll be ok. You don't want the exhaust to crack and break open after spending all that money on it

It will be install right after the downpipe but the flex will be 10 inch long instead of 2. Will the rest of the exhaust balance like crazy or it should be ok?

Thanks

Hi,

I finaly got the job done this afternoon and I am very happy with the result. The exhaust sound deep and really quiet when driving normaly. Finaly, the diameter of the flex pipe on the stock 2.2 ecotec is large enough to weld a 2.25 downpipe. I think it is already 2.25 or 2.50 so we welded the new downpipe on it. The car feels much better now, I noticed a nice gain of power when shifting at high rpms. I am gonna test it real soon on the track and post my times.

see you
