I have a small question on the installation of the 2.3 HO intake manifold on to the sunfire 2.4GT.
Hear it goes do i need to get an adapter plate to attatch it or can i not use one?
And if so why?

You dont HAVE to, but its recommended. The reason being, it makes the swap that much easier, it also helps the air transition from the oval shape ports on the manifold to the bshape ports on the head. Before the flange was around you had to some how make the manifold have bshaped ports by adding material and grinding down to make it match. So thats really the only reason you need the flange is to make the ports match up.

the manifold would also get extremely hot due to being connected to the head/block. The adaptor flange that Chris Fontana sells reduces the heat transfer to the HO manifold.

Chris Fontana has the adaptors, last I read he had 12 of them left...

I would consider an exhaust manifold to get extremly hot. The ho manifold without the flange does not get that hot, just about as hot as most other parts under the hood. But with the flange, the ho manifold is almost always cool to the touch.
