need help bad...kinda newbie-ish

hey whats up guys...been lurking around here looking for info, and some help. i just bought a z24 cav, 98 5 speed. make a long story short, i just bet a guy $500 that my cav could beat his honda. well, i took the thing out to see what it could do, and the best it would do was like 106-108 mph. felt kinda funny when it hit around there, like the engine was cutting out. i need to beat this guy badly, and i was thinking, is there some kind of speed limiter?

second question, well related to the first. ive got a 75 dry shot NOS brand nitrous setup left over from my 5.0 mustang days. would this help me get over 108 mph?

oh yeah, its got a cai, header, exhaust and some kind of short shift kit (at least thats what i have been told).

thanks in advance.

Yes there is a speed limiter, and do NOT take that discussion to the next level or this thread will get locked.

No, nitrous will not get you over that.

Thats the next level, asking how to get around it. We don't allow that information here, too many people have died. If you haven't won the race by 108, you aren't going to win.

certainly there are some j's that run faster than 108 in the quarter right? can we talk about them?

i dont understand whats so bad about running faster than 108.

What kind of track are you running on? Oval?

People who've run 12's at the track have trapped around 108, and if you are running that fast, you've either invested in the correct mods to remove it, or know how to remove it anyway.

yeah there some Js that run over 108 MPH in the 1/4 but that is on a LEGAL track. not some dumb street race.
the brakes and i think the suspension from the factory cant handle 108 MPH.
and if you ever built your car up to go 108 MPH in the 1/4 mile, by that time, you should already know how to get ride of the limiter.
its a cavalier, not a supercar

see, ive got smaller than stock tires on it, so it throws my speed off like 10% or so.

dunno how fast im actually going.

Then I guess you'll have to get the right sized tires, that alone right there is enough to show you won't be safe at those speeds.

The JBO doesn't want to be held accountable for someone streetracing a honda down some road and hitting a minivan with 6 kids, 2 dogs, and a mom while going 153 mph. J-bodies weren't designed to go over 108 mph. It's not safe unless in a very controlled situation. Some advice:

would it be ok to hit them at 105?

At any speed close to 100 its gonna cause major damage, and it wont be a street race, itll be on a 7500 foot runway, so no innocent bystanders.

come on guys, help a brother out. ive got two weeks before we race.

You'll have to look elsewhere to get the information on bypassing the speed limiter, I think we've covered that here.
