i was wondering if i could do anything to make my 2001 2.2 sfi cavalier motor to run alittle faster? i already have an intake and someone has told me to advance my timeing

unless you want to spend big money on a turbo or nitrous, there isn't anything to make it faster. all the bolt ons will help break you into the 16's, but thats about it.
there's a few threads on the first page of this forum with people discussing this topic....
GO PATS!!!
Well you can do a buncha bolt ons like pulley, cat back, motor mounts,......read the performance faq in the preformance section it will answer all your questions. And as for Mr redneck there is no reason to be negative so what if his car doesn't run 10 seconds its all in the name of fun and he said a little faster. You wil have to learn to not pay attention to the negative people on here there is so many of them! Infact this is the most negative car forum I have ever seen! Good luck!

well,
if you live in the USA, turbo parts are VERY CHEAP.
I got all my parts for turbo for around $900.00USD.....
THATS CHEAP !!!!!!!!!!!!
then all the odds and ends for install.
break into the 16's ?????
I ran 16.6 with a stage 3 clutch, and an intake. I consider that stock. haha.
you will have trouble breaking into the 15's with just bolt on's....
if you want occational fun, buy a wet nitrous kit, you want some power, part together a nice turbo kit run 6 psi daily and be done with it.

Unless you're willing to spend eh.. 3 grand it's not going to be fast.
This is what i've done so far, for under $500:
1. ngk v-power spark plugs ( stronger idle, slightly noticeable difference )
2. Generic Cold air intake & straight through exhaust ( very noticeable difference at higher rpms.. you have to do both though. )
3. accel wires ( no difference. )
4. MSD coil packs ( big difference noticed because my coil packs were dying.. don't know if there is a performance difference vs. healthy stock coil packs. )
5. RSM Crank pulley ( definetely noticeable increase in power across the powerband! )
6. RKSport upper motor mount insert ( helps a bit at low rpm's / while shifting but makes the car rattle a little and was a bitch to get in. Big bang per dollar value though. )
7. Mobil-1 synthetic oil ( definetely makes a difference.. )
8. Weight removal - removed driver's side seat and spare tire / jack / plate that goes on top of the spare tire ( makes a noticeable difference off the line, but won't help you out once you're going fast :] )
9. Took of the konig 16" rims because they were lugging down the car. Stock tires are lighter and there is less rotational mass for the engine to push. ( definetely noticeable but you trade handling & style for speed.. i personally like the sleeper style though.. )
These things you can do for cheap. Don't expect to be driving a racecar after doing these mods though, i drove a newer ecotec cavalier nonmodified after i was done modding, and the ecotec was faster.. :\
so with all these mods i'm pushing maybe 130 horses at peak.. i haven't dyno'd it or anything but my cavy is definetely faster than it was stock ( when i bought it stock it was kind of poky. ). It was worth the money i invested but it's just barely what you'd call sporty. Only turbo / nitrous / engine head work will get you into fast car-ville.. but all of that is very expensive.
As for advancing/retarding timing, that's going to cost you a lot of money i think. You'll need a MSD DIS-whatever for that and they are major $$$.. I don't know if it will help you anyways.
good luck..
Sadly, no more..
In my opinion: intake, header, exhaust with high flow cat. That will be a start. Depending on how far you want to take it, getting your cylinder head ported and polished will cost a few hundred dollars depending on where you go and will really open up the 2200.
Alot of the disadvantage with the OHV motors is in the head design and flow. If you get a port and polish you can get a few ponies. If you check my registry you can see how much bolt ons will do for an OHV.......not much.
