vacuum

I spent the day working on the car today, getting it ready to sell. I had a broken vacuum line so I replaced the vacuum harness. I also installed my new autometer vacuum gauge, 30 - 0 In Hg Mercury. It reads a steady 15 at idle. Full throttle, pulls to zero. Backing off the throttle and coasting it goes back to 15. While coasting and giving about 1/4 throttle it will jump to 17, then back to 15 and depending on throttle position, go back towards zero. Isn't this a little high for idle? I know our project honda hatchback (our second turbo honda setup) registers about 25 at idle / coasting... Do the J-cars just run less vacuum or does it sound like I might have a leak or a kink in the line?

I have a CEL too, that comes on after a few minutes of driving, but that's a different issue most likely which I will address later.

get a scan tool and look at the short term fuel trim and the pre cat 02... that should tell you if your runing lean or not... also high idle is a sign of vaccum leaks. I don't know what its surpossed to be at but I would think it should suck alittle more then 15 at idle.

That was what i've seen in my 2.2

Maybe our cars just run lower vacuum. Never saw it go past like 18 or 20

Yea that's what I figured. It doesn't have a high idle, it has a lower idle if anything. Then again, I can never be for sure because I have no tach. It sounds like its cammed some days

yup yup. I've got some more work to do tomorrow because I can't get the fuse panel shut (wiring and the vacum line to the gauge go up through there). And I'm going to go get the PCM scanned to figure out the CEL so I can address that. I just rolled over 170K today, still running strong.

Update on progress... I scanned the PCM today and came up with IACV and another thing which I'll get to once I finish replacing the IACV. I'm thinking this MIGHT be the cause of some of my car's problems.

Those IACV are expensive. Is the car idling weird?

I once had my intake pipe not on the throttle body all the way and it threw that code. Hope it's not that actual part, cause it's like $80 or something for this little tiny metal piece.
