i know it's been talked about, but i just wanna make sure .. is 2.5 too much for n/a exhaust? would i be loosing power? come to think of it it's only .25 difference , so does it really make that much of a difference?
NOPE ! Thats what I'm running and my 60' times have not changed a bit. My trap speed has jumped by a couple mph tho.

great thx...
anybody else running 2.5 n/a exhaust ... what do you have to say?
welp i've always used this theory on all my cars 4cyl-2.25, v6-2.5, v8/turbo-2.5/3.0 2.5 is good for a 4banger if u want lots of high end breathing, but u risk losing torque and some grunt off the line if u don't have any air intake mods
People say that what doesn't kill you in this life
will make you stronger. I'm not sure if that is true
or not, but i do know one thing-You have to learn from
it and it has to make you better.......it has to.......
ive seen 2 things about exhaust size on NA engines. ive seen 2.25 for all j body engines. then i also seen 2.25 for 2.2/2200 engines, 2.5 for the 2.4 and Ecotec
Im a Xbox 360 fanboy...and damn proud of it!!
i have 2.5 inch piping and i love it, it gives good top end power
ive got 2.5 from the header back, and its definatley better than stock.....wether its better or worse than a 2.25 inch, i don't know, but I like my exhaust. and when im spraying, it helps a bit.
btw this is on a 2003 ecotec

Honestly, it all depends on what you want out of your engine. 2.5" you will lose bottom end power, sure. BUT, it's the minimal size you would want if you ever went the boost route (nitrous, turbo or S/C)
So ask yourself this: Over the course of my car's life, what will I do to it?
Always plan for the future if possible so you don't have to waste your money going back and doing things over again.

hate to tell you but back pressure is a big "wise tale" my car did nothing but get better with a 2.5 xhaust. Id say 2.5 is great cause later in life you can boost and not have to change xhaust

Ever one lives 1 page at a time, some stories are longer than others. R.I.P to one of my many best friends. Keep all the tuners safe. See you soon, Love ya man.
i think its basically on what muffler you got, well the size in length, cause i was putting 2.25" on my car before my boost and nitrous and i ran it up the road with straight pipes and had NO power at all but it was loud as hell, put a 18 inch muffler on it and it pulled really hard, so i think if you are worried about back preasure with 2.5" exhaust put a 18 inch muffler on it and you should be alright....im no exhaust expert but this is my experience.
I picked up a "grassroots motorsports" magazine a while back that had a full write up on cavaliers. They said that the best for 2.4l engines was 2.5 inch and for the 2.2l to go with 2.25 inch exhaust. It all depends on your future plans (if you plan to go forced induction go with the bigger size). Speaking from my experience on tuning 2 2.4L Z24's: The first one I put on 2.25 inch exhaust system and had great low end grunt but fell off on the high end a bit. While my current Z24 has a 2.5inch with header - big time increase in top end/may have had a slight drop off in low-end torque.
Well like I said my 60' times did not change a bit so they whole thing of loseing bottom end is indeed an "old wives tale". My mph picked up so the high end breathing part is at least true. Now I do have an intake and head work done too so you may want to take that into account as far as additional mods. Later this year I'm planning a cam swap and perhapps some more head work and bumping up the CR to around 11.1 . That should put me running a flat 14 or perhapps even break 13.999. Then I'll be happy.

wheni re did my eahaust i went to a 2.5" exhaust from 2.25" there was no loss on the bottom end unless someone can dyno. we will not know for sure. I know it did not hurt my car. I ran my car after i replaced with the 2.25 and did better and the ambient temps were warmer than when i ran before with the 2.25'
I personally think if you are going to go 2.25 mandrel bends are better. If a shop is going to fab up an exhaust then i think a 2.5" would be better.
