do you think you could use 2 head gaskets to lower compression a little? i know felpro head gaskets are pretty strengthy.

why in hell would u want to use 2 head gaskets on a 4cyl?
Opening Soon Kustom J's
just get the thick cometic head gasket
ok people must realise that COMETIC does not make an MLS HG for the pre 98 2.2's!!!!!!!!
IIRC, SCE sells a thicker copper hg, but you may not be so inclined to o-ring your block/head.
I wish they did. What's a good 2.2 head gasket? i've heard of victor reinz, and i've used that once. Seemed pretty good. Anything better?
I know Major had a good experience with his felpro, but I believe there are better HG's out there.
what are you going to be using on the new engine?
I have one lined up, but can't remember the name of it at the moment.. I'll get back to ya on that.
i thought it was out already
oh well
contact each company that makes gaskets and ask them what the compressed thinkness is , and go with the 1 that is the thickest
Man, it seems like you've got bad luck all around.
Double gaskets... As a general rule, no. When you clamp a head to a block, you generate stress points in both the head and the block. The areas around the bolts are distorted more than areas between bolt holes. This is why there's a torque sequence, to try and "direct" the distortion to the outer edges of the block. Anyway, when you double stack gaskets you run the risk of under-compressing areas that aren't under the bolt holes. And there's a good chance that neither of the gaskets will be compressed to the thickness they're supposed to be, which means the gasket won't provide the "push" against the block and head that it's designed to provide. So gasket companies and engine books alike usually say "NO!"
Now for the real world. It's definitely risky to try. I've seen it work in a pinch. I've removed iron heads from old iron block V8's with mega miles and been surprised by double gaskets. I've used double steel shim type gaskets and "Copper Coat" sealing spray at the track when it seemed like we had a detonation problem. Doubling gaskets makes a small difference in compression ratio. Changes of .08 to .50 are typical for smallblock Chevies.
With a name like Nitrous Nate, I'd be thinking you should stay far, far away from double gaskets. The more pressure you're building in the cylinder, the more likely the head gasket will fail. Now if you don't care if you have to pull the head again, and if you think you're good enough to catch a failed gasket before it causes any other problems, you don't have to worry about what anyone says... do it and find out. But with a fair amount of money and time invested, you probably shouldn't chance it.
There is one other option. For cylinder heads which have been machined too much there's a product called a "headsaver." It's a very thick copper spacer designed to be placed on the top of the block to restore the compression ratio. I don't recommend 'em, but I've seen 'em installed without comebacks. Again, the more pressure you build in the cylinder, the more likely a failure is.
Didn't you buy an Ebay head? My friends at the machine shop tell me you can buy brand new aftermarket head castings for the 2.2 for cheap money. I think they're selling 'em for $300-$400? That *may* even include the price to swap over valves and springs. Look around. Maybe you can find a deal like that.

the question remains, which HG does one go with, other then a Copper?
I dont think anyone's really gave feedback on *this brand* HG.
I will be going with a stock replacement, but im trying to find one of good quality.
and as far as I can tell, Cometic will never put out a pre-98 HG. The only reason the 2200's are out is because of j-tuners.
they require a 50 purchase minimum before they even think about R&D. (which includes a spare block and head)
J-Tuners told me directly that unless the 2.4 and 2200 MLS HG's sell out, they will not have enough funds to order them for 2.2's.
