Installing cat-back, where to cut? tips?
Friday, March 03, 2006 3:25 PM
I am installing my catback exhaust tommorow morning. Do i have to cut the factory exhaust to remove it? Any tips? I heard you need to cut somewhere near the axle back section to be able to remove the stock setup? Is this true? If so where should i cut?

Its either cut it or remove the whole rear axle. Cut it in the straight section before it bends up to go over the axle, This way its easier to reinstall it if you ever need/want to. Have fun.

you shouldn't have to, three bolts, undo the hanger for the muffler and wiggle it out.

ooh, the axle back is a bolted on piece? If I dont have to cut it, That would be much better, but I got a saws all just in case. Its an RkSport Cat-Back. Hope all goes well. Thanks.

^^^No. You will have to make one cut before it bends up to go over the rear axle beam. That is it, just one cut.

To get mine off today I had to cut the exhaust as close to the axle beam as I could. Too far away and you can't get it out. Learned that one.

just hand tools and like a ratchet set to remove the old one from the cat? little WD-40 maybe?

^^^Yup. I used a little WD-40 and the bolts came out pretty easy when I did my exhaust.

With mine, i had to cut right in front of the axle, wiggle everything out. Then I had to drop the axle, to put the bend over it. Another 45 minute job turned into 2 1/2 hours....

Wrong, You can not get it out with out cutting it. It's one piece, No way to wiggle it out.

Ok, the kit is installed. It was easy to put on but i had some trouble taking the old one off. Mainly because of the bolts at the cat. Plus, when i went to put on the rksport kit, they didnt give me bolts and nuts for the end that bolts to the cat!! luckily, Home Depot had exactly what i needed but i was very pissed. After the install all fits well. The kit hangs a bit lower then the stock one, but nothing to serious.

Thanks for all the tips on the install.

I love the kit, it looks and sounds good, but i would never reccommend it to anyone because of the missing pieces, that were missing from a sealed bag. (plus once i ordered mounts from rksport for my motor and then they "never heard of the order" two weeks later. I dont like RKsport. I do like there exhaust though, its pretty much a way less expensive Magnaflow.
