Engine pulling...need help.
Monday, February 27, 2006 6:37 PM
OKay, so I'm in the process of pulling out my engine to replace it, and I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to discharge the AC system. I really don't have any way to get it to anyone authorized to do that, so I didn't know if anyone had any different methods.

Thanks in advance.

its kinda a pain in the ass to just umbolt the A/C compressor then try to pull the engine. I had trouble with that when i pulled my motor so i did this...just losen the line that goes to the canister i think its like the dryer canister or something like that... its the thing that looks kinda like a small coffee can and let the system drain that way... just dont tell anyone your doing it... let it seep out slowly dont totally unlosen the lines...

Can't you just take the compressor off and tie it out the way. If you go the other route make sure to wear saftely glasses or something, because the gases can make you go blind.

physically yes you can just let it out, legally you can not vent refrigerant to the atmosphere. If you going to vent it to the outside make absolutely sure you don't spray it on yourself it is pressurized it its cold enough that it will burn you and whatever you under no circumstances get it in your eyes or very bad things will happen.

No, you do not need to evac the ac system. I have had my engine out many times, and have never evaced the system. Just unbolt the compressor, and yank the engine. And the engine comes out fast. I have a 2.4l and I can have the engine out and back in and running in 5 hours. Its like lego.

Yep just like he said, no need to drain the ac system. What i do is unbolt the compressor, and tie it up against the radiator as close as possible. That should give you plenty of room to pull the motor.

Just leave the compressor hooked up to the lines and disconect it from the mounting bracket. No biggie.

Semper Fi SAINT. May you rest in peace.
