The definitive Ecotec spark plug post

Well folks I promised these and here I deliver. All of these are in my new Patriot head before it went on.

Test subjects:

Stock:

Autolite 103:

Just a LITTLE bit shorter.
Champion SRT-4 stock plugs:

The SRT tip does extend a little farther in but it is still well clear of where the piston reaches in the cylinder.

So as you can see...The only choice is stock or SRT. Autolites should not be considered a valid choice.

While I'm posting pictures here a shot of me with my Best in Class award for GM Sport Compact Mild at the Chicago WoW show...

Oh and a few people had asked me for a picture of my new GF so here you go.

and sorry to the guys in AG but there will be no pictures for you.

Hey great info and pics Ryne. Are you gonna sell those SRT plugs? Once I get my kit installed this week I may hit you up for some.

$15 shipped to the con't US is what I've done for 3 people now...although one of them sent me $17 which ended up being 15.xx after Paypal got their chunk of it. LOL. Darn business account fees. Maybe I should get smart and just tell people to Paypal me $17 so I get $15 and make my whole $1.82 profit

I got some NGK iridiums for mine and they are working great. I think the part is pretty new its LTR5IX-11
Re: The definitive Ecotec spark plug post
Monday, February 27, 2006 3:11 PM
Yeah. The NGKs are a one step colder plug for the SRT4s and are 2 steps colder on our cars. Same length as the Champions.

Bosch +4s are a gimmick plug that serves no purpose what-so-ever. The spark will always take the path of least resistance so your only using one prong at any time anyways.

matt: some places, like the dodge dealer around me, charge a lot more than that to normal customers and places like autozone don't carry the Champion plugs all the time. I'm just giving people a way to get them if that's the case for them.

would they have a higher performace SRT-4 plug, that would still work, or is there even any use in it, and the champion is fine as is........ ??

The only upgrade for the SRT are the NGK Iridium plugs

but would they work ? and are they better ?
You would'n happen to have the number off the plugs, would you ? cuz i'll go pick those up, and see what kind of difference there might be.
Granted, i replaced my plugs, a few months ago to NGK's, but i got the stock replacement ones........

Next, do you happen to know what the gaps should be set at, and wahat the optimum gap should be ?

BTW: i think this should be a sticky.............

They aren't necessarily BETTER but they will work. Be warned they are 2 steps colder than your factory plugs though so they will run a little different.

Most people seem to run these at a .035 gap. Nothing to say what the exact best would be.

you have the number off of the plug, or the box, so i can go in and get the right part the first time........ or at least a comparable number ?

and stupid question, but is colder better for plugs, and what is the advantage / disatvantage to run a colder plug ?
