I've been hearing alot about "Royal purple oil". they claim to increase horsepower by 3% last longer than regular oil and decrease friction by like 400%. So my question of the day is, has anyone tried this oil and noticed a difference?? is it worth the extra money? whats the low down on this stuff. If it's claims are true I'll go buy some and do an oil chance today!
thanks

i use it , and like it
ive never dyno'd 1 against the other
I saw a dyno test on horsepower tv with a chevy truck iirc and they changed the motor oil, trans fluid and the rear diff fluid and dynoed 5% more power. So take that for what its worth, you won't be able to feel anymore power if you did gain it tho. I think its great oil but, its a little to much money for me. I don't see much if any difference in that and the mobil one that I use except for the price tag. Not to many places around here sell RP oil either. If you wanna spend the extra dough, go for it.

i use it on my car and would not recommend it more.after the oil change the car just feels more powerful and lubricated than before. Plus its full synthetic so it will give you great protection for your vehicle if you give it hell like I do. overall I belive that It is worth every penny. I change mine about every 4000 miles.
I think you meant you would recommend it. I can mine every 5000 with Mobil one and a puralator filter.

I dont understand why someone would go longer than 3000 miles on an oil change. I dont care what oil OR filter you use. Even tho the oil wont breakdown for that long, wont mean it isnt goign to get dirty within the same amount of time period. Oil change is a simple security blanket for a VERY LONG lasting engine. I use full synthetic Quaker State and a napa gold filter, still change it every 3000.
how much is RP per quart??? I use castrol syntec and its like $4.50 a quart

Bout the same as any other synthetic.
Yeah, the price went up recently. Like a month ago.
im thinking about getting some lucus from work and try that with my next oil change

Its all mental....they tell you more power! and quickly you get brain washed.
Thats not entirely true my friend. Personally, I am about to graduate with a degree of mechanical engineering and in my last year I had to use multiple test on motor oils for one of my assignments to graduate. Of course, everyone =knows with a syntheticoil the friction factor with the constant metals in rotation causes heat. with the synthetic oil on the engine I was testing it out performed a mineral based oil dramatically. I used royal purple for my synthetic as opposed to pennzoil for the regular. Now I also did a test with mobil one against the same test against the penzoil and the results were preety much as close as can be with the purple a little ahead in overall heat dissapation and lubrication by about .002. personally i use purple as i stated earlier but mobile one is just as good. your choice. My advice, buy the one that you can find the cheapest. The objective of this writeup was just from my personal opinion and testing. you be the judge of what u use in your vehicle.
I haven't used their engine oil (I use Mobil 1 because I can get it at the local AutoZone, unlike Royal Purple), but I did put their gear lube in my rear differential, since the factory fill was crap. Next on the list to do is the tranny fluid. Good stuff

they also switched from regular oils to synthetic. more than likely thats whats made most of the difference...
i've used royal purple once in the diff of my race car, other than that i stick to just my fav. brands..

it all depends on what you do with your car. I would go mobil 1 since its probably the best performing and easiest to get oil. What do you do with your car to feel that you need to run RP? If its just for some attempt at a HP gain, then i would look elsewere.
This is a really good forum about oil.

I get my royal purple at my local O'rielly

You can also get royal purple at Pep Boys but I agree with what some the others said Mobil 1 is just as good and costs less. Maybe if I had a Ferrari Enzo or Saleen S7 instead of a modified cavi I'd go with the purple but for normal people that just like to take great care of their cars go with mobil 1.
I want to use it ju7st to make the engine run better, make it last londer and I'm doing the drag races up here this summer so I would like some good lubrication for the engine. Thanks for the posts all! I apreciate it

Royal purple isn't any better than mobil one imo, it just costs more.

again with your brainless posts? If he wants to use RP let him. RP is a damn good brand even if it is slightly expensive.
I'd rather have the confidence that my car is running a high quality oil.
not saying syntec is bad, I'm just saying people have more than 1 option.
To each their own I suppose.
Well I'll see, I just did an oil change a few weeks ago so I wont be due for a while, but i think I have a broken gasket or seal, So that will all have to be done when I do the clutch. As far as RP, I'd like to use it but Im not sure if I can get it around here, but if not I will go for the Mobil 1. Im using Castrol GTX right now and it seems fine but I want the best for the sunflower.
