Injen Short-Ram Intake Color?
Monday, February 13, 2006 8:44 AM
Got a quick question for people . . .

Next week I'm probably going to be buying an intake for my 05 Cavy. I don't want to go for the Cold-air system, but rather a short-ram or WAI. I've read that the Weapon R is a heap of garbage, so thats out of the question, so my alternative is "Injen". Now here's my issue . . . Navigating that website is a joke and I can't find the purchase for it, lol. Unless my browser was being gay as usual. ANYWAYS, if you go for Cold-air, you can get the pipes polished red, blue, silver, etc. Is it the same way with the short ram as well?? i was checking Ebay just for giggles and it said that the Injen one is ONLY available in Silver or black (a black intake??). Considering I'm doing a black/blue scheme on my car, I figured the polished blue would look good with the short ram.

So, the question, is there the different color scheme available for the Injen short ram? If so, can someone give me a link for it? Hell, could someone just give me a usable link to the 03-05 Injen short ram intake for a manual? Thanks

BTW if your car has ABS it won't fit.

Does the Injen one come in any other color then Silver or black? If you look at the AEM one, it comes in this really nice polished blue, and i was wondering if the Injen one has the same option?

I didn't actually know that K&N makes one for our cars too. I found this: K&N WAI

Would that K&N one work for me? I know some intakes are iffy when it comes to either manual/automatic, and I have a manual.

Well, I have a completely base Cavy, so I highly doubt I have ABS.

From what I know, the INJEN one is basically a weapon-r body, with a better filter. Only the weapon-r and the injen have that exact same flat tube section that attaches to the throttle body. Other kits use a rubber elbow. Consider the K&N Typhoon intake. That comes in polished or powder coat blue.

Now the K&N one that I posted the link for, would that be the one I need? Cause I do like the blue, it does say its for my Cavy, K&N is a good company, and it says ts for "all", so I'm guessing that means Manual or auto? Would the K&N one be the way to go?

Weapon R and INJEN are nothing alike. The Weapon R fits the was its supposed to
the INJEN does not. They may look similer do to the neck part that fits on the throttle body but beyond that they're not. Anyway as far as I know the INJEN only comes in polished or black. I have the polished and I love the way it looks but if you want it blue may I recomend either powder coating or transparent paint over the polished aluminum would give a great effect too.

As for the ABS just check next to the master cylinder for a silver box. Or when you start it see if you have an ABS light on your dash.

I'll check for that in a lil bit when I go out to my car. I'm pretty sure mine doesn't have ABS though. If it doesn't, I'm going to go with the K&N one I posted, would that one work?

Alright, just ran out there, frickin cold weather, lol. When you turn the key up the one notch and all the lights come on, there is no ABS light. So I don't have it, yay! The K&N one posted will work just fine, right?

Should but I've never messed with that one so I can't say for sure. I must admit I do like the INJEN despite its fitment issues on the ABS equiped cars. Its a nice set up. One of the cleaner ones out IMO.

Just to make sure from what i've read and what not, all the intakes generally give the same hp and tq gains. So even if i went with K&N or Injen, it wouldn't really matter besides looks?

correct most of the intakes out there regardless of price will give you pretty much the same results compare prices for looks and quality........why have you not considered AEM,,,,they have the colour you want, they use a K&N cone filter and is pretty much the same price as the Injen.....

The K&N i actually have, so I can tell you that the kit will work with automatic/manual/abs/no abs. The kit comes with the manual clutch resvoir for free and if you have an auto you simply dont use it.

I can feel gains at the top end with the kit. The filter element is top notch.

Well, I was going to go with AEM, but from what I know, they don't make a short-ram for my car. They only have long-ram and with living in Chicago, we get heavy rains in the spring/summer pretty often, so I don't want to risk hitting a big puddle and ruining my Ecotec, lol.

Hey Rob, with the K&N one, do you still have the different sound? I know that sounds kinda dumb, but my friend has a 04 Tiburon with an intake, and his car has more of an "import" sound going on. He said that if I had an intake on mine, I'd have a similar, but not exact sound. I was just wondering if it was noticable?

They do not use the same flat part to attach to the tb, Injen uses the flat tube and weapon r uses a snake head shaped tube.

ok i have to pipe in here i am good friends with some one who is good friends with injen dudes pretty much here is the low down on injen prob the best intake out there and i will tell you why when injen makes an intake they test it on the real car now they get there dynos done and put the product out for shipping and purchase. now the good part if injen hears that another intake is better and produces better numbers they will go buy this intake test it on the make of car it is for and see what it does on the dyno compared to theres if it so beats the injen one injen will pull all of their stock off the shelves and remake it so it beats the compatition now tell me another company that does that?

Yes, you have the sound. With our cars, the ecotecs, you really have to have the car floored to get the sound difference. The sound is deep and throaty, but it sounds smooth and clear. Very nice sound. All aluminum intakes should sound about the same. (i dont think there are any big companies making anything but aluminum intakes for the ecotec right now anyway).

As far as power, i think they will all make the same real life driving condition horsepower. All the short ram kits take the same air path, and are about the same size.

I have pictures of the intake installed on my car, so If you want, I can email them to you, just let me know if you want them.

Also i think the RKsport intake is a great alternative to a K&N typhoon. It also uses a K&N filter and has a nice tubing kit.

Hey Rob, would you mind e-mailing me those install pics? I'm going to go for the K&N short ram since its a decent amount, has the blue and is completly compatible. All intakes are like a 10 minute install, right? The only issue is relocating the manual clutch reservoir, but even that is easy/

I just put the AEM CAI on my eco and believe me, you'd have to hit a pretty big puddle to get any water to the filter. The whole thing is covered by the plastic wheel cover. The only way water would get to the filter is if it goes through that small hole in the front bumper were fog lights are suppost to go. Either way AEM does make a short ram for the ECO just look for one...id link one for you but its too late and im too tired. Good luck.
