Can a Hi-flow cat go bad?

LIke the question says, how often does that happen? The CEL came on and has it scanned at autozone and it can up with a bad cat. FYI I have a magnaflow cat and it has been installed for about 8 months.

Running too rich, burning oil, if it went that fast something had to kill it. Did the car run rough or smoke or anything?

Not that I know of, what can I check for? Or where do I start to diagnose the prob?

Well I had the CEL code scanned, and thats what it came back with. I had the car checked for exhaust leaks and there was nothing.

I didn't know the car could tell when its cat went bad. ????? Are they sure it wasn't just the O2 sensor ?

the after cat o2 sensor is what tells the computer how its working , when the after cat o2 fluctuates its voltage in similar pattern to the primary o2 , the computer sets a code for improper cat efficiency

or meaning the cat is back

depending on the cat you have , its very common for it to set a code

if you have gone 8 months with out a similar code , id just clear the code

it prob set due to being to cold out when it ran the test for the cat

how ever if it becomes a constant problem with the code , and there is no rattling or loss of power , doing 1 of the after cat o2 sensor mods will help it from coming back

either a simulator , or the spark plug anti fouler mod that places the sensor farther out of the exhaust stream

or you could not have been lazy ald looked on page 3 of that thread and found the instructions...

OR

you can look in THIS THREAD (which is on the 2nd page of THIS VERY FORUM) amd see where I posted the same instructions on Friday!

eriC - What was the EXACT CODE you got when it was scanned? I got the magnaflow 94025 cat on my car and about every 2 months it would start throwing "poor catlytic efficency" codes. As 97 cavy said. if this was the first time in 8 months you got that code, just have it cleared, and not worry about it.

if it comes back, do the alti fouler mod
