There are many bolts through the inside.

If you are trying to remove the entire timing chain housing, you have to:

1. Get your car on jack stands
2. Remove the front right wheel
3. Remove the crank pulley,
4. Get a jack with a block of wood on it to support the engine by the oil pan and then remove the upper and lower motor mounts
5. Remove the bracket that the lower motor mount was bolted to...this will expose 4 small bolts that connect the timing chain to the oil pan. Remove those.
6. Unscrew all of the small bolts that hold the black cover to the timing chain housing and remove it
7. Remove the timing chain and cam gears and any bolts connected through the timing chain housing into the block.

There are probably other things I have left out, and this is by no means a "how to" write up.

If you have never messed with internals on a 2.4l then look at the write up for removing the camshafts at ny-jbodies.org. Good luck.

Sorry, that is assuming you have the 2.4l.
